:(If there is ever a time when you need the power for this forum and "Z mates" it's when you have an accident.

It was raining and I had just stopped on the opposite side of a railway crossing at a red light, next I see this Honda Accord approaching at rapid knots. Because the rails way lines were wet, the car slid straight over them and into me.

I was rear ended and pushed into the car in front. The car in front was a Tarago with a tow bar, so no damage to the Tarago, but a big hole in my front bumper.

The rear number plate is bent and I'm sure the plastic is squashed out of shape.

I would like to take this opportunity to upgrade the front bar if possible. I don't want the 2000 model bar, but something like RedZedMikey, I think it's a Stillen.
Also, at the last Jedi tech day I met a guy by the name of Hayden (don't know his nick name), his front bar was nice too, can someone at the tech day tell me what his details are please?

I live in Berwick and would be interested to hear if there is a reputable smash repairer around that area, also it there are any I should steer clear of. If I have to travel a bit for a good panel beater then I will. I have heard that F1 smash repairs are good, so I will definitely contact them.

My insurance company is "Torque" and this will be my first claim. Does anyone have experience with them?

    Any help appreciated.

The accident wasn't your fault...why are you claiming?

I'm not claiming. I want them to pay for everything.

I presume I have to contact my insurance company and let them know I had an accident?

Re: I'm not claiming. I want them to pay for everything.

Sorry to hear the bad news mate... :(

Not sure about that, but I would, anyway. Just make sure they know it isn't your fault, and if you don't claim, it shouldn't affect your rating. :)

Just be patient, dude, I've been in a similar situation and everything should work out just fine... The only annoying part is waiting for your baby to be fixed. But believe me, when you get her back, she'll look better than new, especially if you fit a new front bar.

Don't get disheartened, at least you weren't hurt, especially being that close to a railway crossing... Car's are repairable, you're not. Take it easy dude, and as I said, just be patient (I know it's hard), and it'll all come together. :) :zlove:

    Well accident law states......

that if you hit the person in front of you, your at fault. Even though you didnt actually hit them, but by the fault of others, you are deemed to be too close to the car in front of you(therefore you must keep a safe distance in front of the other car, usually when you can see there rear tyres).

To upgrade the bar i guess you will have to make a claim and pay the difference between the standard bar vs stillen bar(if thats allowable). The rear of your car WILL and SHOULD be covered by the driver of the Honda. You WILL and SHOULD cover the damage to the Tarago IF they make a claim against you. What did they say they were going to do?

Remember for you to upgrade the bar YOU will have to pay your excess for the damage to the Tarago so your front bar can be fixed. The damage may be minimal compared to your excess payable, also noting that your making a claim.

Then you have to take into account you can sue the Honda driver for causing you to make a claim for your car hitting the Tarago and so on..........

Remember there will be 2 claims, one claim for you hitting the Tarago and the 2nd for the Honda hitting you. Only the Tarago claim will be yours.

Best thing to do is call Torque and tell them your story without making a claim.....pretend your enquiring about insurance and ask them a "what if" question and see their response.

From what i hear F1 is pretty good for zeds....but they are no where near Berwick.

    Hope this sort of helps:)

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

    A couple of points

    1) Are you certain the Tarago owner will definitely not be making a claim? Because if they do, they will probably claim against you.

    2) Do you have contact details for the Tarago driver in case sh1t happens and you need him/her as a witness?

    3) Was the Honda driver insured, and did he leave you policy details for you to claim on?

In this circumstance, my advice would be to still lodge a claim with YOUR insurer, as they will OK the repairs to your car. If you wait for the Honda driver's insurance company, you may be left dangling for a while. The insurance companies will then sort out payment responsibility and driver liability.

When my Cordia was rear ended in a fairly big way, this is how I handled it, and it was all settled without any cost or penalty to me. The excess was recovered by my insurance company from the other guy's, and I retained full rating 1. The big difference is that there was no car in front of me, so no frontal damage, and no other car to throw a spanner in the works.

    4) Yes, my front bar is a Stillen GTZ-R, purchased from Simon/TTZed.

    5) Can't help you with info on Hayden.

    6) Highly recommend F1 Smash, they repaired my front end and fitted the Stillen bar and UAS bonnet. They aren't local to me (I live in Carrum Downs), but they know Zeds.

Sorry to hear of this Gerhard, hope you get it all sorted out and back on the road with a minimum of downtime. Christmas is a bugger of a time for it to happen though.

    Cheers, Mikey.

I did get some of the details

The driver did not have a licence on her. So I went to the cop shop to check her details and they were correct. The Tarago driver said she was not going to make a claim as there was no damage to her car, but you know women, they can change there minds (excecially when she tells her husband.

    Thanks for the bar details.

    Gerhard......

I'm not sure how you will get the front bar fixed unless the Tarago driver does make a claim or you pay for the damage yourself.
Try asking the insurance company if they can fix the damage as it was due to the Honda driver. If they say "NO" then ask them how it would change if the Honda driver would have pushed you into a brick fence? would the brick fence have to make a claim......?

Such a shame to hear Gerhard and so close to Christmas, hopefully it all gets sorted out quickly.

You won't be able to get a "new" front bar through insurance ....

It would cost less than $200 to repair plus R&R and fitting.

I had similar damage to repair a few years by someone in a carpark (and they didn't leave any details). The actual plastic repair cost $100.

Even if the damage was so bad that it couldn't be repaired, the insurance assessor will specify a second hand front bar which they should be able to get for $300 or less.

As he was stationary before the first impact ....

it is the driver of the Honda that will be responsible for all damages.

Its a touch and go one.....

depending on your insurance company you will find that no matter if your stationary or not, if a car hits your car and pushes you into another car its deemed that your car is too close to the car in front of you.

Plus a 1.6ton stationary zed to a Honda damm makes me wonder how fast the Honda was going to move something of that mass.

This is what happened when i was involved in the same way

Being in this situation about 4 months ago and having my commodoree written off so i could get my Z :)

I was station when hit from behind and i hit the car in front which hit the car in front of that.

The way it works i went to my insurance company AAMI told them what happened ie hit from behind to person in front. they took care of it all cause i had the details of the person.

The insurance company of the Tarago person will calim on your insurance which will then claim on the Honda's Insurance so while you did hit the car in frount of you you are not responsible for the accident. you dont loose any rating because the insurance company has someone to claim against.

As to replacing the the front end. Well you would have to talk to the repairer and have see if he can quote the repair for the new front end as being the front bar you would like to have.

If you already have an aftermarket front bar it should all be good. Depending on the repairer give it a go nothing lost for asking and it dont cost him if he already has the job the insurance company will coff up the dosh.

This works as my brother droped his bike. and they quoted for every thing there was a scratch on the exaust pipe so the dude fitted a yoshi exaust to it which is like $800 instead of the standard one. and respraid the petrol tank cause it had scratches from my bro's belt buckle.

Good luck with all this you should work out fine in the end and the best part is, is that you were able to walk away from it all.

just rember to ask the can always just say no.

    Blipman Beer hooves totally work

    Don't think so Maxwell

I was involved in a multicar pile up in the old man's Commodore many eons ago, although in fact I DID hit the car in front (very mildly) the car behind then hit me and did more damage and it was deemed he was at fault as he increased the amount of damage to the car in front.

Good luck with the repairs Gerhard.

sorry to hear gerhard. Sorry I cant offer any advice on the insurance stuff as I really dont know. But I do reccommend F! smash repairs to fix the damage. I know its a long way out, but I prefer to travel the extra distance knowing that my zed is in good hands. Hope it all gets sorted soon..

    Cheers

    Benjamin.....i am shocked.....

    you drove a commonwhore

Strange maybe it only affects P platers as my mate had this situation happen to him. Maybe its also due to being on 3rd Party compared to full comp. He got stung to pay for the repairs to the guy in front, while the repairs at the rear were fixed.
