I just had a fascination with trebuchets for a while..
built this little cardboard model from plans I found..throws lil balls of bread about 5-10m. I lost the weights for it though...so its out of commission for now.



I also made a larger version with wood...sitting in the backyard now...just cant find enough weights for it to work properly...that one threw chunks of foam about 3m so far with a brick as the weight...maybe someday I'll finish it up to throw tomatoes at people across the street...

I remember seeing a doco on Foxtel where the experimenters built a trebuchet using modern materials but according to ancient Roman plans, then took a Mini (as in Morris 850) and hurled it something like 500 meters... half a kilometer...imagine what the Romans could do with one (the trebuchet, not the Mini) against a fortified position, eg castle walls. Roman equivalent of a tactical Nuke?
