    Hey all

Since my lower rad hose needed replacing, I thought I might as well install the SMIC's that i got from the group buy on here - thanks to JAPTEK.

    Installation was a breeze (mostly).

Simply take off the front bar, take off the stock stuff and screw the new ones on.

I did away with a few bits, out of simplicitys sake:

    1) the stock air box had air vents running to the outside of the engine bay - ditched those since i got a pod.

    2) the brackets either side that help support the front bar. (drivers side hasnt ever had a screw in it and it hadnt made much of a difference so they were deemed not necessary.)

    3) the stock air guides. Will have to construct some of my own, once i get the new front bar.

Only issues were that the bolts were a little hard to line up properly, but nothing a bit of brute force couldnt fix, and that the one of the pipes was a C**T to get in. Made me punch the fence in frustration.:rolleyes: I didnt even have to move the Carbon Cannister or bend the pipes, its a really nice fit on both sides.

Also that the drivers side lower pipe, the one towards the back, had quite a bit of oil sitting in the bottom of it. Cleaned it out with a rag. Im hoping that this is 19 years of build up and nothing to be concerned about.

Also, where can i get a new plastic thing, mine has been devastated in the middle and is grinding away at both sides. lame. Going to have to cable tie it in place.

    The

front guard liners will possibly have to be cut, the smic's sit lower than the stockies, you'll find that out when the bar goes back on. Looking good!

Here is the side shot showing clearance to the Carbon Canister. Its hiding behind the overflow bottle. :)

Here is the gash in the lower rad hose. Lucky i caught it. Its through the thread and eating into the other side, no sign of bulging in that area tho. Phew.

Andy, while you have access... Lock your wheels the other way, and take out the overflow bottle... Then give it a clean!!! Get all the gunk out of it. Hit it with some degreaser, and boiling water.

    Hey all

    Done.

Jono - no time to do that mate.

    1) rain.

    2) Im about to get hit with a bitchkrieg.

Ed - yeah, i will eventually. Will be getting a UAS front bar before i do tho, otherwise there will be not much point.

I ran into one other issue while putting the indicators back in. The "turn" lights, not the indicators but the ones next to them, will not fit back in if the light is in the socket. Perhaps I have mounted the SMICS too far forward. Im not sure.

To get around this problem I had to leave the light out on the drivers side and... cut away (ie: smash) the socket away for the passenger side.

I now have no side lights, nor foggies. Tho my indicators work.

Jono - time to get me some HIDS. Want to help me install them?

im pretty sure these smic are very similar if not the same as the ones in the james mofo smic gb.....everyone also had this problem. i dont think you have mounted it too far forward, its just how it is. some modifying will need to be done to solve this issue

I thought that might be the case.

I'll just get two sets of HIDS, foggies and headlights.

Pretty sure that'll be bright enough. :p

Plus i know where i can mount them now... ;)

    hey mate,
is your front bar back on now for good?

Was wondering if you could take a few pics for me of the intercooler piping. I'm trying to work out how the piping comes down near the cross member and up underneath. I can't find pics anywhere.

i'm doing the TT conversion so i don't have mounting brackets to guide me either.
