It's never easy with a Zed, is it?

    well....

in those instances when the fuel computer has died, its pretty much dead... no revival until you crack it open and repair it.... so I dont think its your FPCU, but hey, stranger things have happened....

You could try the old paperclip trick with the conzult plug to read the error codes... there's an article in the tech section that describes how to do this...

    Cheers

If FPCU is dead, you can earth the white

wire leading out of the loom from the FPCU- this bypasses the FPCU and gives the fuel pump full 12v power. No harm using it like this for a few weeks wqhile you locate another FPCU...

Easy to tell if it's the FPCU, which I doubt >>>

Does the FP prime at IGN on?

Sounds like PTU may be the problem but could be compounded by dirty/corroded connections, ie CAS!

    Never easy in a Zed!

Well, you couldn't have said it any other way. I'm just dicovering how 'tight' the engine bay is to work in. Oh yeah just another 10minute job they say. Bull I say!

I was attempting to install my new VTC cam Heavy Duty springs from Jim Wolf Technology - so to do the job properly and not break anything you have to remove the upper and lower water inlet and outlet alloy pipes that bolt to the block. This is when I first spotted the bottom hex head bolt under the upper pipe looked a littel doggy - read there had been some previous coolant leak and had corroded the head slightly of the bolt. So I gave it a go and tried to undo it - yep you guessed right, the head stripped out and the tool turned inside it. I don't want to make it a real mess so, off to my friendly motor mechanic to use an easy out or something to get it free. By the way the other two were extremely tight to get out, the lock tight on the threads didn't help any either.

Did Nissan use lock tight on the threads from the factory?

Oh well give me a chance to do some other things while the engine bay is slightly more accessable.

    Cheers, Kaz.

    UPDATE..........

for all those wondering/curious it's not the PTU.
Just swapped PTU from Doug and my Zeds, car didn't start both times and mine started regardless of which was used.

So can but a big X next to PTU being faulty.

I've got a spare CAS, and can plug the laptop in. I'm working nights this week, but have to go to Ivanhoe at 12:30 tomorrow, so could swing past after that.

No idea what killed it Rob.

Still intermittently getting the same error code as I was before (RHS warning panel 1 long 14 (or 15) short), so maybe real problem hasn't gone away. Old CAS is in the boot to be pulled apart at Coona... maybe it just needs a clean (did I get any fluid in it when I did the engine bay, sort of thing).
According to Consult the only error codes were for the CAS.

Thread lock on factory bolt thread

    Hi there Wykked,

Thanks for the info, no wonder they were so hard to get out, I had also read on the forum Nissan had tightened all bolts on the vehicle to a high torque - definately experienced this first hand!

    Hey Kaz.....>>

We will be coming up your way in late June on our way to Darwin. Will be staying in Alice for 2 nights and would love to catch up if the time permits. Will also have the laptop with us so can hook the car up to ConZult if you don't have one yourself.

ANOTHER bloody error code found, Jeez, it's never ending

Did the A/T diagnostic sequence to find that I have Error code 3... "Throttle Sensor circuit shorted or disconnected". Bloody Hell, what else can go wrong? Popped the bonnet, pulled the connector below the TPS apart, cleaned and tweaked the sockets/pins, plugged it all back in. Re-ran the diagnostic, error code gone! Yippee! OMG what a difference to the way the car performs. Changes are sharper, and at much lower revs, the thing is now driveable again ( used to wind out to almost peak revs before it would change). I love my car again! Lookout Coona!
But, Oh boy, the contortions you have to go through for this function.
Start the car with selector in park and O/D switch on, turn it all off and deselect o/d, Move to D, wait, Switch o/d on, move to 2, o/d off, stick your finger up your nose, press the accelerator and see what happens. Regardless, it works. I'll bring a print-out of the sequence with me for those that are interested

    Hey there Wykked,

    Oh man, that sounds cool!

Dangerous had mentioned he would be coming up through as well. We are considering going to Adelaide at the same time would you believe...

We don't know at this point in time if we are actually going. I would rather stay here and meet you guys in Alice Springs. We have an excellent coffee machine at home and my missus loves to entertain. So stay tuned on the outcome for sure.

Yep, probably could use the Consult services again too.

    Catchya, Kaz.

We will arrive in Alice on the way up......>>

On Wednesday 21st June, and spend Thursday 22nd looking around (maybe Kings Canyon), then leave Friday morning for Tennant Creek. We will be staying only one night on the way back, which is Wednesday 5th July. We are hoping to travel up with the Gammons, but I believe their plans are to leave Adelaide on a later day than us. Jen loves good coffee so the chance of catching up at least coffee would be good. You probably don't remember me (we never spoke) but I was the guy that Dave rang and asked questions of when the two of you were looking at your car around the time you bought it.
