Anyone know a decent mechanic in/near Wollongong that has dealt with Z's before?

Finally got a bit of money behind me and wanted to finally get the engine running nicely.

    Issues I've noticed so far:

High idle on start-up (around 1500-2000rpm) and stays around there for several minutes - drives really sluggish while in the state.
Randomly while driving on the freeway the engine starts a gurgling sound, loses most power and needs almost full throttle to maintain any drive however never really lasts longer than 30secs and its fine again, I'm thinking an intermittent misfire.
Really poor full economy - I use to get around 450kms with mixed city and freeway driving and now only getting around 300kms with just driving around town.
Today the engine was stone cold after driving around town for 5-10mins.
A pretty noticeable ticking sound from the left side of the engine bank.
A faint fuel smell from in the cabin although it use to be much worst before I got the issue sorted at Pulse Racing Menai about 2 years back.

With no in depth inspection made I'm thinking the issue lies with either or both the O2 sensors and TPS.

Ideally I would like to drop the car to someone that knows a bit about these cars on Wednesday as I wont need it again until Friday evening however can make do without the car for longer if necessary.

BTW, its a 1991 TT engine with the odometer showing around 108000kms

    Cheers.

One possibility (that I have experienced myself) is that it is the air regulator (this thing https://conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=574).

The AR contains a bi-metallic strip that opens a door when it is cold but closes it to create much reduced airflow when hot). You can't just use the idle adjust screw because then when its hot you're idle would be way too low.

It may be that the door starts out too wide open or it may be that the electrical connection (that heats the strip so it closes quicker) is broken so that you have to wait until engine heat closes it.

When was the last time you cleaned all your connecters? Also check to see if you have any boost / vacuum leaks. Do those first as sometimes they can be the problem which might save you a trip to the mechanic.

    Thanks for the reply guys.

And in all honestly, I have never cleaned the connectors although I did have all vacuum/leaks checked and 'supposedly' fixed a couple years back. The car is going up to Rob260 this weekend and I've only heard good things about his work so we'll see how we go from there.

What was the problem did you get it sorted?
