Just wondering, is there a such thing as a laptop mounting plate or something which would fit into a single din? i.e. a plate which you can mount your laptop onto, and it is attached to an arm sitting in one of the din slots?

Figured it would be a great tool to keep my laptop on (provided it can hold the weight), but I'm a) not even sure if it exists, and b) if it does, i have no idea what it would be called.

put the laptop in the passenger footwell with the ECU, and link it to a touch screen mounted in the din

Thanks Zeo, found a laptop mount specifically made for laptops by RAM, though they are all floor/seat mounted... I'll see what else i can find :p

Anti, i need it to be used as a proper laptop, it's just going to be used in the car alot. Since sitting in the drivers seat doesn't exactly leave any room to place it on my lap, i wanted some sort of stand or something for it.

I'm thinking that the driver's seat is for driving from and using a computer while driving might not be the smartest thing to do while driving .

    beaten to the punch again.

there is also a legal issue here, if we are not supposed to use the gps/dvd player while driving how on earth do think the boys in blue will let you get away with a laptop.

That aside does it really need to be a full sized laptop, one of my buddies has a really compact net book, it still has 1 gig ram a 2.2 ghz cpu (single core though) and 160 gig ram and its lewss than half the size of a conventional lappy, his rests in a modified cell phone holder.

Cheers Pex, I'll see if i can find any more of those... Not so keen on the first 2, but not exactly sure how stable the suction cup will be on the 3rd.
    To both:

I never said i was going to be using it while driving, nor do i intend to do so. It merely has to be used in the car, and i don't want to keep moving from the passenger seat to the drivers seat just to use it.

Also, it is a netbook, I'm not using a full-sized laptop.

soz buddy was not trying to imply you were going to be using while driving, but I always thought its not wether you are using it but wether it can be used by the driver while the car is in motion, hence the likes of handbrake lockouts for incar av gear. In the end with the police its not what you are doing but what they think you are doing.

I won't be keeping the laptop in the stand/mount while i'm driving, so that shouldn't be an issue. Think of it more as a mobile office; I take my netbook with me when i leave, but i leave the table and chair there.

Also, I've seen a few stands now which also have a cup holder attachment, so i may even put that on when I'm not using it as a desk. Would be extremely useful since even with the cardboard cup holders, the drinks still seem to tip over and spill.
