Marian has had a whole lot of sport cars and converibles... from truimph spitfire to late model ford capri's The thing is she is after a good late {post 2000) sport convertible with an motorised roof and good performance. Cars not on the short list are: 300zx...... too old and my TT nearly killed twice her when it seized, then 2 weeks later locked the auto at 60 kms. mr2 spyder too small gutless and manual roof. mx5.... common, manual roof and gutless. astra..... did i mention it had to be sexy too.... Cars that might be ok.... Z3 6 cyclinder version.... I still think that they are gutless but Marian thinks they are liquid sex S2000 nice but a bit revy for me but Ive been told that they are fantastic to drive. Boxster.... at 55 grand for a well used one it might be a pipe dream but its on the short list.Any one know if the roof is powered? SLK230 Kompressor..... this is my FAVOURITE one. but under powered but a fantastic car. Z350 this one is the pick I think and I might be able to pick up a vaule for money second hand unit. Ok your opinions please have I missed anything out for about 45 grand? shadow
You've pretty much exhausted the options but... you forgot the MGs, and the Lotuses. My personal preference would be the current shaped SLK230. But if that's beyond your budget range then definitely the 350Z. Happy hunting
A new wife might be cheaper, Craig  Won't win too many friends here with that comment Put the 45k towards a SLK55 perhaps?
there is no way i am going to consider trading my wife on you Lloyd you might "put out" but if you roll over on me in bed i dont think Ill wake to see the morning.... besides ive only got two arms to chew off.
nox my personal perference is for a SL500 92 model... But Marian dosn't think its sexy enough and too big. the lotus is nice but too small and manual roof puts it out. as the the MG woops that is on the short list If I can find a blower for one. how ever considering that Rover has gone bankrupt agian.... parts will get too scarse very quickly. Damn and Ive just ruled out the Z350 at 65 grand for a second hand one its out of the budget. shadow I wonder if she let me get anther FIAT 124 spyder with the blower on it.the all I have to do is power the roof and fit power steering to it..... Stuff it I want one for my self....
I just dont think the TT liked her it spat the fuel pump controller out with her in the car at 140 kms on a quick bend just out of Grafton. seized the motor by droppin an exhaust cam at 40 kms in the middle of an intersection on her. the 2 weeks after dropping the new motor in it locked the box on her at 60 kms in the middle of a roundabout in sheldon in the pouring rain. I'm sure the TT just didnt like her. her z260 used to go like stink untill in the middle of a thunderstorm a tree fell on it. and her ford capri stopped suddenly in the middle of parramatta road leichardt with th alternator seized on it. That says a lot about th power coming out of the capri when an alternator can stop a motor... Ive treid the old I'll get a yellow 300 convitable and buy a TT half cut and drop the motor in and do it .... Marian just lookd at me cross eyed. BUT she didnt say that I couldnt do it..... snicker . My next project. shadow
isnt that like screwing a fat chick... fun to do but dont be seen in public wait no that riding a harley. no beetles are not on the list she cannot stand the look of them and far to slow. Marian was a top rally driver fom tassie. She still wants me to make her a AC replica. shadow

Hey shadows, I like the challenge ... One criteria you didn't list - is transmission important? I couldn't contemplate purchasing an automatic sports car of this nature, and given that it sounds like your wife actually wants to DRIVE the car, and not just steer it this could be important. Given the models you've listed as IN those that are OUT, and your other general comments, I reckon the S2000 will be the go. I did a quick search on carsales.com.au and found that all 64 S2000's offered were manuals (perhaps Honda didn't offer autos :thumbsup, whilst of the 35 Merceded SL230 Kompressors, only 1 was a manual. Does that say something about the car or the people that drive them? Both can be found in the $40-50K bracket, though the Mercs will be older. Fiat 124 Spyder - GO FOR IT! Get a Pininfarina Volumex supercharged one, and forget the power roof criteria! http://www.fiatspider.de/124DS005511222.jpg Nissan 350Z - still way too early to get one at your price range. Z32 TT convertible - Yeah, that'll do as well. Oh, and Dodge Viper ..... oooops, that'll be a bit big to drive, and a bit big on the wallet.
Mustang??? what about a mid 90s mustang......probaby hard to find a manual....and i dont know about power top.
The SL500 is a sexxxy beast... It has whiz bang everything as you properly already know, including an auto pop up roll bar which activates when one of the wheels goes off the bitumen . How cools that? It is very big and heavy tho, but nothing a V8 can't lug around. John Bowe had his SL600 for sale last year for around $87K. No surprises there for being a V8Supercar driver wanting a big fat V12 to drive around in . How about the Saabs, they're nice and classy for a lady to cruise the boulevards in. And I guess judging from your comments regarding the VW beetle that the Audi TT is not on the short list as it is powered by a beetle engine.
Agree - Drove one of these a few months back - very nice. Just keep the revs up and they go well. Only drawback (quoting the owner)is the amount of oil they use. I can't temember how much per 100 k's but it's quite a bit and he checked with Honda who have confirmed it is normal. cheers, Peter
