Started on 200k service today. Almost the first thing that happened was this: Plastic was so brittle, it snapped off by just loosening the hose clamp. I guess it's stuffed. I'm assuming the easiest fix is to find a second hand NA radiator. Don't suppose you can buy a new plastic top tank? I've put up a post in the Wanted section. Cheers, Peter
might be lucky to find someone with a damaged rad that you could nick the top tank off. But probably just as cheap and easier to get an entire second hand one
replace it... its like buying a car with a 2nd engine in it after driving 300,000km+ the engine might have have been rebuilt and all good but allllll the other parts have still done 300,000+km...
Thats nothing major mate, did it on my 89 na last year when i tighten the clamp so much i broke the same plastic pipe. Took it down to a radiator shoip and had them replace the top tank for about $120\. They will flush the rad. and reseal it. Easy fix.
You're lucky Peter - that exact fault cost me $6k 2 years ago when this caused my engine to overheat to 125 degrees. Thankfully you got away without any carnage. Anyone reading this thread - go and check this on your cars!
Admittedly it was for a Nissan Pulsar but I had to replace one recently and it was cheaper new from Nissan than having the original one reconditioned. It's worth giving Nissan a call to make sure. Cheers, Evan.
far out look how much dirt is on your shoud.. and i spy original worm clamp !! grab a nice ally radiator. there so cheap now its not funny
But where do you get them from. TTZ have one listed but everyone knows how fast ttz's shipping is. COZ has a Koyo NA but dont Koyo only come for the TTs zeds??
Same happened to mine earlier this year (not the overheat, just the pipe breaking about 1km from home). Bought Jedi's rebuilt radiator. So Yes, Pete, top tanks are available.
Same thing happened to me, it's in the Post Events section under Fleming's Tech Day (a pic of it is there), my car couldn't attend because that top pipe cracked badly.. -Kirill
youch that sucks pete LOL.. good luck getting a new one.. if not yeah id just upgrade if you can afford the spare change its ony my to do list in the near future (alloy radiator) Hope its all good and ill have to swing by to see ur NA soon LOL
I have decided to get the radiator rodded and a new top tank fitted. I just dropped it off and should have it back all spic and span just after lunch. Thanks for your posts and the info guys. Cheers, Peter
