A few months ago I posted a thread or two with regards to an Ignition problem I was having. I pretty much went over everything (with much help from auz300zxassociation, appreciate it guys) before admitting defeat. I called my mate who is a pretty good mechanic.

Before: zed turned over well so the starter motor was fine, as was the battery, coil packs, spark plugs and ptu. All doing thier job right. Fuel was pumping in like a champ. Injectors were a little corroded on the terminals. Bit of crc and a wire brush fixed that. Ignition module was fine, unburnt fuel smell from the exhaust, and the crank angle sensor was also in good Nick.

Problem: the timing on one of the cams was out by 180 degrees. :|
how it happened I have no idea. It's a wonder how the valves aren't bent but the timing belt looked pretty hurt.

solution: get a qualified mechanic ALWAYS

if anyone else ever has the same problem, consider your zeds timing. And don't cheap out on your zed.

Can anyone suggest good zed specialists in Perth?

Cam timing was out by 180deg?!? I didn't know that you could do that if you had half a brain

If it was the drivers side exhaust cam then a failed tensioner could foreseeably cause it.

It was the right side. My guess was that the previous owner had a dodgy mech (or diy) servicing it, never changing the timing belt, (it looks pretty hurt) And the belt slipped. But 180*? It would have had to have slipped after I bought it. Cause I got it dec 09, not long after she packed it in.

probable only went 180 because valves tapped the piston and stopped it going further.

so does it run smooth now??

it's odd as those cams gears will always feel the most tension from the belt as the rotating crank puts constant pull on the belt. It's usually the drivers side cams that cop a loose belt from a failed tensioner.
