About a year ago now i had my 300zx crashed into while I was driving to work ... completey the fault of the other driver ... She was insured with RACV & so i took my car to a my own panel beater ... got quoted approx $4500 for the repair & then the RACV assessor came down to have a look (I also had my fuel pumped changed the day after the accident because it died straight after, so I was already out of pocket) Neither the assessor or the panel beater looked behind the bumper

The decided they would only give me $1100 for a second hand bumper & respray. They chose not to reimburse the fuel pump because they didnt beleive it was from the accident (apparenlty im trying to "pull the wool over their eyes") ... even though it was only a month old & died straight after the accident, and they didnt believe my exhaust was bent! ... I wasn't happy with that so I called them and told them and they didn't really seem to care ... I asked them if I was entitled to a hire car during the repair and they told me definately not

Anyway, pretty pissed off so i got a lawyer, took the car to AMEX in Heidelberg ... had an independant assessor look at the damage ... everyone seemed to agree with me & couldn't beleive they were being like this ... I had the car repaired (the chassis rails were even bent at the ends, thats how bad it was ... and all they thought I needed was another bumper?)

So in the end, for being bastards it cost them $6809.86 in repairs ... $924 for the hire car that im apparentley not entitled to & then there's the legals fees (i have no idea what that was though) oh, and they cheque for the fuel pump is coming in the mail

    Up yours RACV :)

If you didn't have the hire car option on your policy, then your insurance company isn't responsible for supplying you one. However since you werent at fault, you can still get one and they'll just include it in their claim to the other parties insurance co.

Make sure the hire car has the premium reduction insurance option too!

That is really awesome news. Well done. I bet your really stoked. Nothing worse than big companies thinking they can just roll over you.

Perhaps for the benefit of everyone on the forum you can give a few more details of the process you went through? Im thinking more of a "how to" guide for people to follow if this happens to them. Some hints on your legal process maybe?

hah yes RACV suck BIG balls when it comes to claims.
I had a head on stack with some noob running a red light.

Anyway in the end my car was insured for 9k only which i thought was gay as it was. The RACV mechanic was a greek guy and he was really good (not like those dodgy ones! (like myself lol)) anyway he said he will put down it will cost 8700$ to fix my car (which included taking it next door to some (professional) gear box replacement guys.

anyway he fixed my car etc and cost 8700. Took it home then bout 2 hours of driving later, my car was over heating! popped bonnet and the radiator fan was in BITS! took it back to them, they replaced that, and also my clutch plate fan was gone! So got that replaced too as it was part of the accident claim. 1 days later and my g/b was making noises. I got assesed it was just a thrust bearing. Got it changed but it was still making the noise. In the end was the synchros in the g/box. After taking it back to this gay gear box company they kept my car for 3 months sourcing out whats wrong with it and parts and IMO lazyness, i threatened with legal action to RAVC, they said it was not a fault of the accident so they wouldnt claim it, but as they kept the car for 3 months and i threatened with legal action they said they will go half way and cover a 2nd hand gbox and give me 2200. Zshop fitted and installed the race box in a few hours and cost 1500$. Was the 1st time i met the Zshop team. Won me over from there! (not to mention i pocketed the other 700 :D :D )

In the end, it cost RACV +$17000.

    UP YOURS RACV!
