So I have a 92" 2+0 Manual TT and it started blowing white smoke a while back, then overheated and when I checked the radiator it was empty (filled fresh the night before) No hose leaks so Im guessing the water leaked inside.. Went to start it the next day and horrible noises from engine, It has sat ever since(4 months) So I found a 89" TT for a good price and I was wondering is it a straight swap? Will everything line up, connect, etc? I really want my Z back, its been too long!
while engine's out while the engines out you should do as much maintainance as possible. Timing belt, water pump, under plenum bypass, rear main seal, every hose on the motor, head gaskets, clean up engine bay, heater hoses, service gear box, fluids etc. the list goes on and on. my sugstion is to do as much as you can do while the engine's out so you can avoid problems down the track hope this helps nd doesn't put you off , Andy
I personally wouldnt buy another whole zed to swap the engine out. U can buy a low km import engine from most jap importers. Chances are the km's will be lower than a zed from aus... If you do decide to buy a whole car, defo do a compression test before buying to make sure everything is ok. As Andy says, replace all hoses, belts, o-rings, seals, fluids etc. Rebuild or buy new turbos if funds permit.
