    Hi all,
I'd like some help diagnosing an intermittent problem with my car alarm/central locking.
It keeps activating the indicator lights followed by the central locking as you would see when setting the alarm with the remote; but this is happening whike I'm driving
    it. Very embarrassing!
I don't know the alarm type/model; I've tried to duplicate the fault with the car stationary and the motor idling by tapping doors and flexing visible wiring and connections etc.....any thoughts / similiar stories, before I start taking door trims off?........Is it just a bad earth or connection or something in the alarm itself?
    thanks in advance
    Andy.

Sounds to me like a bad earth.

I'm having probs with mine at the moment.

Sometimes the doors lock then unlock automatically.

    Cheers Fate

Earth fault ... look at door actuator wiring from under dash module.

Chances are you have one wire making an intermittant earth connection.

I'm just fixing BlackBaz's Mongoose door locking mechanism and the 'triggers' for door actuator are both negative. The door actuator (when idle) has 2 x positive supplies until one side is 'swithched' to earth by a trigger signal, thereby opening or closing the latch.

    Hope this helps.

    I have a similar problem...

.. except my alarm lets me set it then won't come off. So I sit there pressing buttons, opening and closing doors, counting to 500 and then, when it is good and ready, it allows itself to be turned off. A delay of half an hour is my worst experience.

At least all I get is 4 way flashers during this circus as the previous owner had used the siren key to turn off the v loud unit sitting behind the back bar. He told me did did that because he only he only needed immobiliser type protection. I now know he turned it off to avoid being lynched by his neighbours.

My local auto elec tell me he can rip it all out and put in a modern combination immobiliser/remote door opener for under $300. I am going to do that. The original alarm unit is probably as old as the car and wouldn't justify spending any time on. In the meantime I have a $50 Prolock!! Works every time.

    Good luck

    short circuit

I had the same problem and had nothing to do with the alarm. It was a short circuit in the harness under the dash.

I have a turbo timer that is playing up!

The warning bell that indicates that the car is running with the ignition off is ringing while I'm driving!
Then when I turn the car off the timer doesn't activate and the car turns straight off. Very annoying
