    Hi guys n gals.

    Well here is my story.

My zed had been having issues as of late and seems i'm going to have to stop being a tight ass and go for a full mechanical going over. Well anywho the first issue i have noticed is that my idle is very nasty its only been like really bad once or twice, and thats once i was home from a 15min drive, and thats enough for me. The best way to say it is, that it will rev like 3sec fine, then almost die for 1sec and just cycles like that, and the second issue ive had which happened really bad today (pretty sure these problems are related) when i was driving hooning abit to get to 100kms when i changed from 3rd to 4th, the car felt like it was in 5th, like. felt like i had gone up 1 gear to many, (i know thats not much detail but best way to say it im affraid)

ok before i get told to 'use tech section' i have and here is what i think the problem is, but if there any other advise, please add to the list of 'things to be done'..

#1 o2 sensors (can cause bad idle or erratic idle) (atm 1 is dead 1 is lazy)
#2 injectors (as far as i know, there still the original ones and therefore could be #@%$ed)
#3 fuel delivery (not sure if its same as 02's but my car has a 'after market' fuel pump)
#4 air regulator (that 1 is just a stab in the dark, but id assume, bad air intake would also be a big cause for bad idle)

also when i get the 'overhaul' on my lill zed. ill obviously be needing a plenum pull (also there are a few 'small' boost leaks near turbos and was told a plenum was needed to get to them) just a quick question that the tech section didn't 100% tell me, does the plenum pull do anything? or is it just a way of saying, 'getting something off the engine block and making more room'

Well thats it... sorry for the novel guys n girls, but any and all help/advise would be greatly appreciated

    also check your

iacv (idle air control valve) theres a strong likely hooh its clogged with gunk and can cause eratic idle....
also my zed had similar idling issues to what your describing, with lots of fluctuation and then almost stalling and repeating over and over....turned out to be symptoms of a failing ptu....replaced with a series 2 ptu(power transisitor unit) and it idles nicely,no movement on the needle...:D
wet or faulty plugs can also cause a misfire or idle issue while the car is cold, tends to tidy up when the car is warm though....

ok well just another question while i'm at it, with the things I've described.. lets just say for arguments sake, it was the 02 sensors causing all the issues, is it still worth it to change the injectors, IAA, and air regulator ect? will there be any sort of power increase, or just more efficacy engine?

like im saying, would it be worth just going all out, and getting all thoes sort of things replaces/fixed/cleaned whatever?

your car is 20 years old,and requires upkeep, like any other car

so the answer is yes, while you are in the area,do everything you can because if you dont, youll be pulling things apart again to do the things you skipped.....do as much as you can every time you pull the car apart....
for example tighten the turbo outlet clamps while you have the plenum off....they may not need it,but they are hard to get to except when the plenums off....

Same problem with erratic idle for me was coolant temp sensor was playing up. Try disconnecting it (it's at the front on the coolant pipe) and see if the idle clears up.

hey dude you dont need to take your car to anyone and pay $$$$$ for labour when you can do this yourself if you a little mechanical or have some timeee.....

a plenum pull will not take you long if you promice yourself you will only do a plenum pull and not get carried away and keep digging further and then blinging up etc etc lol....

a plenum pull is a phrase used to describe the job your doing. your pulling the plenum out. ie plenum pull.... removing the plenum will allow you to wipe out all those problems you have mentioned easily. plenum pull will also allow you to remove all those under water plenum pipes, which in affect once finished should hardly ever see you pulling the plenum off anymore as there will be nothing under it anymore....

use these articles to remove the plenum.

    http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.278

this will also allow you to remove all your injectors aswell. once you have taken out your injectors take them to a place where they can bench/flow test them. should be probably around $150 for the lot i think. if all are flowing sweet no problems put them back in. if not change them, or which ever one is stuffed...

i would also reccommend removing the egr and associated pipes since you have the plenum off...use this link to remove the egr once the plenum is off...http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.407

once you have the egr unit out, remove the pipes. two pipes go to each side of the underside of the plenum. cut those flanges off and get them welded up so you can block that hole in the plenum. you can also use welsh plugs here if you want. there will be another pipe which comes out of the egr that goes into the turbo manifold, follow this pipe and remove...once removed cut the bolt off the end and weld the hole in the bolt up so you can bolt back on the manifold and block the hole....you will also need to block the egr vacuum line coming from a unit on the drivers side.

when you have removed the plenum you can clean your iaa unit and air reg. remove the iaa unit. to do this use this link http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.336

take the unit apart and thoroughly clean it. use this link and follow what it says http://www.pexcom.com.au/z32cms/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.337

the air reg is the unit that side next to it towards the drivers side. this is simple to open and check out. there will be a board kind of thing inside it once opened. there should be a spring inside also which will close/open the board window for idle....check to see the spring etc is all good...

you might aswell change all your coil pack connectors and injector connects while your here.

you will be able to change those hoses you need to change that are close to the turbo.

also check your pvc valves. remove these from the plenum. turn it around in your hand, if the inside moves with your movement then there fine. if they are sticking then not good. soak them in some petrol for some time. and try again if still sticking then replace them. you might want to replace them anyhow since ive heard you can get them for like $10 or something.

    easily change o2 sensers aswelll...

chuck you car on conzult/datascan before you start the work and double check everything, so you know what other things you will need to tackle.

do the job, if u need any help just take a pic on what ur stuck on and we will help ;)
