So, I was previously roll starting my Z as the starter motor was busted.
Once rolled started the car didn't miss a beat. This was not an real issue, replace starter alls good.
Now the starters been replaced (brand new) but the car will turn over then idle roughly for a few seconds and die. It sounds like there is no pressure in the engine or even its being starved of something - fuel/air. This carries on for a while, with the car running longer each time. Maybe 10 or so turn overs later and then then will it run smoothly without dieing.
Since putting in the new starter we have had a massive cold snap, so i'm wondering if it has nothing to do with the mechanics dodgy job and screwing something up or just problems with cold starts.

Also, the car is blowing smoke, kind of bluish. Not sure if this is from the car constantly stalling and having excess fluids in the engine or if its busted seals.

ps, its a 1985 Z31 turbo. recently had its 200k service. Yes its old, so im thinking busted seals. fml.

bluish smoke usually means oil I believe, most likely a blown seal, but a much more knowledgeable member will be here shortly to advise

Yeah that's what I've been lead to believe too. Blue smoke = not good, and not cheap.

It's usually a sign of worn Turbo Oil Seals(expensive pain in the ass)but it may also be worn piston rings in a car of that vintage.
Get a compression test done on ALL cylinders(as generally, low comp. across ALL cylinders will support this possible cause).
If one cylinder shows up as very low compared to all the others, it could indicate broken ring/s on that piston.
