    heres what i done....

i live in newcastle and was booked for doing 90 on an 80 zone.though i knew i was only doing 80 by my speedo and told the officer this,he stated to take it to a place at carrington (they check the police cars speedos and calibrate them).
i went there they checked the speedo fixed it (it was out 10klms and wrote a written stat dec declaring this.
i went to court with my little stat dec and the fine was thrown out,no points lost but i did have to pay court costs of about $50.00.
    worth a try mate.
    hope this helped.
    regards brett

    easy way to check speedo

i also have an au falcon (standard rims etc) :-0 when they are sitting on 100 it really is 95. a mate acquired a police radar a while back to check his car.
so when i bought my zed the other week i ran them side by side on the f3 at 100.so the ford was really doing 95 but the zed showed 90.so it is 5 klms out.if you live around the newcastle area i am only to happy to help you check the speedo.regards brett

so if your speedo is fine you will have to cop the fine but if it is out you have a case....

Almost sounds like you have an NA Speed..>>

    Sensor fitted to your gearbox.
If this is the case then expect your speedo accurateness to be out by around 14% ???.I found out 18 months ago with a trip from Vic to Qld - return that my TT Zed had an NA speed sensor fitted. Being a bit of speeder imagine my suprise when I thought I was sitting on a 115kph that I was actually doing closer to 130kph.
3000 Km's and didn't get booked once. :DEasy & accurate way to check your speedo is to borrow a GPS, I'm sure there would be quite a few members who own one of these.Cheers

    GPS is good

Used it and mine is accurate to within 0.2km/h yet was doing 78 in an 80 zone and got booked at 85 (?!) (and with only 12 hours til the end of double demerits too :`( ).Got to hold on to 1 point for 14 months :>< Cheers

    another option...

even if it is accurate, you could prolly make it inaccurate and then get it tested.... ;) ;)

    GPS is excellent.....

...got pulled over one night in febuary near Inverell apparently for speeding(in a sports car, so must be speeding), problem was I already knew they were following and had my gps on and recording a track log(date, time, speed info). Long story short, cop tried to get me for speeding when I knew I hadnt. Showed them the gps and asked for "their" proof, they practically left without another word, though they tailgated me for another 35km till someone actually speeding caught their attention

    Egg ....

    Even easier.

Set the cruise and time yourself when you see a speed-check sign... normally a measured kilometre or three. :)
Bet all the states have them if you look close.

I usually steer clear of these law topics...

....however, I am curious at yours. Did you pass the police car on the corner? If so how 'sharp' was the corner. I ask this because, the police car radar works on relative speed.Because you were both in a corner, the radar would have been also picking up an incorrect reading in that you were both not directly passing each other. This could explain why the great difference, between what you thought you were doing and what he said you were.
If you are a bit mathematical you can explain it using vectors, and how the front of your car relative to the cars radar is travelling above the speed limit.
However, taking it to court has it's inherant risks, especially if the judge isn't mathematically interested.
Hope it all works out. Also it is a shame that the police are no longer seen as an assitance to the public, more and more have relegated them to the new age tax collector. :(
