As the title specifies, the rear passenger side has hugely excessive toe-in but the drivers side toe is normal. I was wondering if this could be Hicas failing or is something else going on here? Car is 1989 TT. While im here ive been looking for an article on what tools and how long it will take to fit a hicas lockout bar (if this is the problem) but have had no luck with search or tech section, any help is appreciated!
He says it's an 89 TT. If it is the HICAS you can usually jack the wheel and feel some movement. I'd get it up on some jacks first and see if I can find some play in the system.
Not likely to be HICAS related, as that system DOES NOT steer the rear wheels independently of each other(if you have huge toe-in on one side you will have huge toe-out on the other). Much more likely to be bent suspension components or a severely bent HICAS steering arm(due to whacking a kerb).
The arm.. ...that comes off the HICAS is a tie rod right? Wouldn't a worn tie rod on one side cause just one wheel to move? Yeah I agree, prob hit a gutter too hard and something is bent. The inner tie rod, I thought this was one of the main issues with our HICAS.
You're absolutely right. A worn or bent tie-rod is the most probable cause(but that's not a failing HICAS)it's poor maintenance or bad driving(or both). If you bend a front steering arm/tie-rod, that doesn't indicate a failed Rack & Pinion Steering Box(in most instances).
All fixed i crawled under there today and adjusted the tie rod as it was WAY out. Atleast a good 10mm out and i dont know how. Anyway all is good now, cheers for suggestions guys! Oh and i havent done any gutter smashing since ive had it.
