I have a 1990 na 300zx with the funky digital air con controls problem is to just turn on the fan you have to hit the Auto button but this also switches the air conditioner on and I have to quickly hit the econ button to turn it off pretty much whenerver I start ther car.

I want the fan to blow without having the air con engage for a few seconds while I race to hit the econ button every time I start the car, any ideas?

No can do. Push the button every time or disconnect the air con compressor clutch.

You live at Kalgoorlie, I would want the air con on :p

Thanks for the info thought there was probably no work around, I prefer to save the fuel and just suck on a big frozen bottle of water, really dry heat....

can i ask why you're so keen to turn off the air con? Why do you 'race' to it off everytime you start the car? It's not like a few seconds of it is going to hella drain your fuel - if that's the case then a zed is not the car for you :p

Not that worried about fuel I just don't like having to turn it off EVERY TIME I get into the car, and I doubt it does the air con clutch much good either. I want my 300zx to OBEY ME dammit, I own it then again all the cash I've spent on it this may not be completely true. ;)

Mine stays on Econ when I use that (which is probably 90% of the time).

However mine is a 93 model, so you are probably out of luck (as Chrispy says above).

You can modify so the air con

is manually controlled but it involves some rewiring and you'd want to be sure before you started. Essentially, you need to change the trigger source (an earth signal) to the aircon relay from the climate control ECU to a manual switch arrangement.

Then you need to link the fast idle direct control (FIDC) into this new circuit. Run a wire into cabin to a suitable earth under dash and install a switch in the circuit.

I can help with service manual pages if you want to proceed.
