How much difference will a radiator fan shroud make

I recently put a larger radiator on my NA. It was one of the eBay variety. Now the rad itself is fine but when installing the shrouds wouldn't fit back on beacaue they were off my NA. Does anyone know how much a difference in temps would these shrouds make. My temps are a little higher than average seeing 90+ on coolish days not pushing it to hard. As far as I know my clutch fan is fine. I have the under plenum bypass done and there is no air in the system. I just wondering weather lack of these shrouds would make that much difference and if the TT shrouds would fit on my rad as it was listed as a direct swap for a tt

    Thanks

There have been a few threads on this, it's probably worth doing a search but I gather lack of a shroud can make a surprisingly big difference, same with the under-tray. Definitely enough to account for the temperatures you are seeing.

Can you modify your NA shroud in some way to make it fit?

It will help, especially at low speeds around town.

With a clutch fan in particular, without a shroud, it pulls a lot of air from the engine bay side of the radiator, path of least resistance, etc ,etc.

    So yes...source some TT shrouds.

Hang on, so you got a tt rad in your NA?

shrouds make a big difference man, even multiple thermos can't beat the old clutch fan and shroud. the shroud works kind of like a tube and actually draws air through the radiator instead of from around it.

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

Fan shrouds are crucial!! First thing you must do is put one back on some how!!

...so if this radiator was advertised as a TT replacement, then you should have better luck getting a TT shroud to fit, so find one asap.
If you're getting 90+ degrees on cool days and not going hard, then you have issues i'm afraid. I'd firstly get your shrouds fitted, then monitor the temps very carefully, and if you still have issues, i'd take it to a radiator/cooling system specialist to get fully serviced and go from there.

Mayb 90+ is a little high. It will however hit high 80s regulary and the other day when it was 38 it got to 105 with air con and steady incline. I will look for a shroud. I'm just tryna see if these temps will be hurting my car

Higher temps will cause more wear and strain on your engine however dont stress unless those temps go over 105. if they do then put the heater on and pull over.

I have the similar issues...I have plans to rectify when funds allow:

    1. Install airguide from front mount cooler to radiator
    2. Install air guide from radiator back
    3. Relocate and install larger oil cooler to stock side mount position.

yes and no...most modern engines have an operating temp of 90-100deg c, as it's in this range than the least engine wear occurs. Cold temps are what increases engine wear due to the greater tolerances between components.

i have an alloy tt radiator in my na and i got a hacksaw and some zip ties and made it fit for the time being, has been like this for 6 months and i have never seen temp go over 92, usually sits on 75-77 on a moderate day and in the early to mid eighties on a hot or after a short hard run

I do also have an underdrive pulley could that be contributing to my slighty higher than normal temps

Unlikely except possibly if you are idling a lot and not reving over about 2000 much.
