Hey guys, last night i pulled the plenum on my car for the first time and it was less time consuming than expected. Ive done a few deletes and relocations prior to this to and im assuming these are the reason it was quicker than expected. Now I want to pinpoint what deletes exactly make life easiest when pulling the plenum for future reference, and i need your help. Please make sure to include the under plenum coolant lines in the deletes if you have deleted them, as i think theyll make a big difference. Ill go first:

    Total time taken: 3 hours
    TT or NA: NA
Previous deletes: AIV, EGR, PRVR solenoids and lines deleted, relocated fusebox and PTU, fuel hardlines on plenum deleted.
    Amount of skin lost: 0.5cm2

done many many plenum pulls and repacements now, but ill list a few i remember well

at a tech day at my old house in osborne park. - Full first time plenum pull with all deletes completed on two twin turbos, mine and tordeks.

Jobs completed some x 2 cars , aiv delete x 2, underplenum hose bypass x 2, bastard hose replacement on 1 car as well, egr delete x 2, new connectors on 1 car only, new gaskets in all required spots x 2, new pcv hoses and valves x 2.

This was done in about 10 hours, so that works out to about 5 hours per car, with both cars back up and running at the end of the day.

    -

Another one, done on a mates NA here in Perth.

Again, full deletes, discovered a broken water hard pipe coming out the back of the motor while doing it, that had to be ordered and replaced also. That one didnt go smoothly, streched to about 6-7 hours total work time till it was running again. (over two different days)

i geuss my point is, all going well, plenum off and back on again, running car to running again, is all possible in a day.

if you find "surprises" like broken parts, or strip some threads, or forget something you needed, you may have to stop work, order parts, and come back to it at a later day

I should probably clarify that three hours was just to get the plenum off, not back on again.

Back on is much easier, really just put the gasket on, line it all up and bolt it down. few connectors later -vroom vroom.

Approx three DAYS, but did a lot of cleaning and deletes at the time.
Most of the delay was waiting to pick up the powder coated plenum. :)

Took me and pebbles about 45 minutes to an hour on my car which has had 0 deletes so far. However the plenum is still sitting in my boot and it's been two weeks... So not the greatest accomplishment.

It really depends on how good your tool collection is.

The right tools can save hours and even days.

    So anywhere between 2 hours / 2 days / 2 weeks.....beyond that you need to buy another car.....the Z isn't for you.....

2-3 hours first time round for removal however that included all the crap like egr etc. the plenum had egr and coolant deletes done was stripped cleaned and painted and reinstalled over the next couple of weekends. now can be removed and refitted in a couple of hours.

Off is easy.. say, 20 minutes?

I had to do a quick lift when I did the hidden wiring.
I wasnt using stock fuel lines, damper or reg so that saved time. Egr is capped to plenum.

    Just unbolt balance tube
    whip out the coilpacks
a few vac lines to undo
    plenum bolts and its off

Had it back down with a new gasket in under an hour.
if I had to undo and setup all the factory fuel lines that would have taken a bit longer.

But plenum pulls are easy and quick.
thats why I find it hard to justify mechanics charging so much to do anything that requires it being pulled :/

You can change injectors easily in a few hours

    Edit:
Having those 3 piece intercooler pipes to the throttle bodies probably takes 15 minutes themselves. Oem intercooler pipes would be quicker..
    I didnt factor those in...

The EGR pipe under plenum bolts are the hardest to do on the plenum pull, the right tools however can make it a quick job - the wrong ones....and......
    you know

I find that the time to remove varies proportionately with the percentage of parts you intent to reuse
