Nope, have to get the engine in and working before I can really try it out... Here is the part number for the lock washer thing for the inner tie rods. Plate-Lock Side Rod P/N:48635-50A06 2 Required.
You got this going yet? VERY interested to hear how heavy the steering is, I suspect it will probably be fine
Okeydokey, some people have PM'd me about the piccies not working anymore. This is what happens when I don't use photodump It looks like I don't have the piccies anymore It's about the only photos I've taken in my life and not kept So if anyone has them by chance please post them up or email back to me.
Is this going to be a road worthy (legal car), mechanic told me when i was checking about making my car a manual rack that if it comes out with PS then it stays PS.
Chrispy's car will be mod plated so wont really bother him .as for the other ppl going down this road it would have to be engineered. Its a very tempting mod tho :zlove: Trev
Nothing in the COP for vehicle mods, so that means I can do it It does say that power steering out of the same model car can be retrofitted with no mod plate necessary. Some mechanics get some funny ideas when it comes to pulling things off Don't take there words for it, look the rules up yourself, half the time they don't know for sure (either do some of the cops). Well you'll have to thank me to start with I believe they are a electric rack setup the same as the Honda NSX. WAAAAAAYYYY too hard to retrofit to a Zed IMO. If I have to I would do the same as Steven and chuck on a MR2 pump.
The electric power steering pump of choice is off an Astra. You could fit it up in the boot and run a pair of Hydraulic pipes down to the front to the rack. If the manual rack turns out to be too hard to steer this is what I will be doing.
Yep Chrispy, Yes you could use the Hicas lines Briz, Shame they are on the wrong side of the car to the rack inlets. Race car battery is in the boot so this is an easy setup to say the least. You could prob even put it under the floor. Apparently they are approx $180 used from the wreckers
No not really but i would reckon on approx 15-20 amps peak maybe a touch more depending on load. When you are not steering ( no load) I would think it would be 2-5 amps
I wont go any further with this until I can test the depowered rack and see if its unsuitable. But at least the path is clear.
Here's a pic of the Barina Power Steering Column: And an article on how these power steering systems work.
