Hey guys. I'm no longer a proud Z owner. Over the Xmas period coffs Harbour had a freak storm. I told my partner to be careful as there was a severe weather warning. She's a safe driver. I lent her my baby this day. The storm hit on her way home on the Pacific highway. My car aqua planed. Spun for 60mtrs. Back ended the cut away and flipped twice landing in a Creek on the roof.

So lucky my 3 year old boy wasn't in it. I got the phone call that day...gut wrenching.

Stay safe on the road guys even if you drive safe...unexpected can happen

    Pics in the link below.

    Cheers. Ian

OMG I assume that your wife is OK.

    That is nasty.

These cars are not the most predictable or easiest in the wet that is for sure.

Sorry to see your car like that. :(

    Hope your partner's okay......

Cars can be replaced, people can't

Your photo shows how strong the zed is behind the targas. It almost looks like you had a rollbar in there

Cheers guys. I'm disappointed in a particular forum member whos name i won't mention.who I purchased this car from in 2008. No airbags deployed in the accident. I took out the radio bezel and found the srs lume was cut. And the led for the airbags was removed from the instrument cluster. The airbags where removed before I bought the car from what I gather. And he advertised airbags in the steering wheel and passenger side were original and hadn't been deployed. I will buy another Z intime as these are great cars. And iv owned two now.

Sad news about the Zed. Cars can be replaced so as long as all are o.k that's a good thing. I would be concerned as to why anyone would remove or tamper with a safety feature like a air bag system. Perhaps it was done prior to the previous owner buying the car.
Hope you soon find another Zed.

I can't imagine surviving an accident that looks like that, without some type of injury. Like the other posts I will assume that your wife is walking and talking (maybe the occasional shiver when she looks at the car and relives it).
I am glad to hear that you want another Zed, can you salvage your engine for the Zed (with blown engine) you buy later?

eg, put your engine in a Zed which probably just needs an engine and nothing else.

Just read something that makes me wonder if it might still be for sale.

Salvaging engine and gearbox. Great idea to drop it in a zd. She's OK surprisingly. Only major injury was having some targer glass removed from her arm about a half inch deep lol.

Time to get a car sorted again.
    Cheers guys

Geez man. That is a horrible wreck.
Good to hear your wife survived that.
Water and Zeds are not a good combination.

    Glad your missus is OK!

That's what's important, cars can always be replaced.

    About the airbags.

Your Z32 has never had a passenger airbag fitted, they only have one fitted in the steering wheel.

The SRS is supposed to be serviced at a Nissan dealer after a 10 year period from the date of manufacture.

The SRS has a self diagnosing feature:
When the ignition key is in the 'ON' or 'START' position, the 'AIR BAG' warning lamp will illuminate for approx. 7 seconds then turn off.
This indicates the system is operational.

The air bag deploys when any of the 4 sensors (the left crash zone sensor, the centre crash zone sensor, the right crash zone sensor & the tunnel sensor) & the safing sensor simultaneously activate while the ignition is 'ON'.

The sensors have arrows on them indicating the direction they are to be mounted, which is facing towards the front of the vehicle.
The left, centre & front sensors are mounted in the front of the vehicle.
None are located in the rear, as the system is designed for front end impacts.

Your vehicle sustained a rear end impact & roll over, it is possible the SRS may not have activated even if it was functional.

You have had the vehicle for a while & it would appear you didn't know the SRS was inoperative.
Perhaps the previous owner was in the same situation.

Very few, if any Z32's in Australia, would of had the SRS serviced at a NISSAN dealer at the recommended period.
Should a defect be identified, the complete SRS should be replaced & you could only guess how much that would be likely to cost.
There is probably no recourse against NISSAN if the system doesn't work in a front end impact & the SRS has not been serviced at the required intervals.

    not good at all :(

Oddly, worst car in the wet imho was my wifes Ford Falcon. Maybe that's because in my "sports cars" I know that the rear end stepping out was a "probability" and hence drove appropriately, or even welcomed it.

ANY RWD car can give in the wet.

In the case of true aquaplaning, heck, my mates WRX was written off doing that. Aquaplaning is like hitting ice. You're a passenger until something stops.

Luckily I've never ever had to deal with aquaplaning ever.

Yes, but I feel safer in a RWD than a FWD when it is wet.
I won't go back to FWDs

I also hope all is good with your wife, A major accident is always an emotional event that can be stressfull for those involved. I hope there is no lasting effects.

I was wanting a polite way of saying similar, Working in the smash repair business I see a lot of cars come in that you would think the airbags should have deployed but they dont, It takes a monster hit in the area of the sensor for a bag to deploy, after all you would not want them deploying for ever little bump and kiss....... I have seen only one car from a roll over that has deployed bags, M3 e36 convertible and it also deployed its rollover protection,

Well Ian, and I hope you will take this in the spirit it is written... Better that she had the accident and walked away rather than what could have resulted. The best accidents are those we walk away from.

Better that this stands as one of life's little lessons rather than a lifetime of 'what if's' dwelling on a tragedy. As other's have lamented, cars / machines can be replaced - people not!

Sad to hear about it though mate - good luck finding another one, if that's what you want to do.:zlove:

    Cheers mate

    Chris.

Hope you can find a decent car to drop the engine into in the future, glad your wife is ok, that targa glass would have hurt a bit!
