Automatic transmission equipped Zs can realize increased performance from the automatic line controller (ALC). The ALC is designed to maintain line pressure within the transmission for consistent, high performance shifting. If you find yourself racing on the track or always competing in acceleration contests, you will find that having a firm crisp shift will reduce your 0-60 and 1/4 mile times at wide open throttle. Application: 90-96 300ZX Automatic Transmission Equipped Vehicles.

    Have you used it?
Also, anybody else have any feedback on these and how they perform?
I assume it would fit an 89 Z32?

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

This unit basically does the same as getting your valve body mod done. Increases the line pressure to make for harder gear changes.

If I've done valve body mod would this make shifts even better?

i don't think so, i think it would actually try to increase line pressure to high. I'm not too familiar with auto tech stuff, maybe an auto guru can confirm this though...

I've got one of these in my car and the difference is huge. First to second are really quick and solid but without the harshness of a shift kit. It took less than 10 minutes to install and really is a plug and play item. I highly recommend it as you don't have to have the transmission disassembled to install it. Hope this helps.

Yes I have used it, it seems to intercept TPS position and give you a graduated benefit latching some line pressure signals higher, IE not much on small TPS %, but more on wider throttle position, basically it sports up the shifting. I think this would help longevity of the auto as well, by giving firmer shorter shifts and not slipping as much on changes in a stock or mildly tweaked TT.

I got it hoping it would assist me with my 300rwkw+ build, it did a bit but not enough to resolve the problems I had with slipping in top gear, we decided a more aggressive approach was needed, IE a valve body shift kit with some fairly aggressive modifications, its all a little experimental at the moment as I'm not game to give it the full berries until I get my chip tune dynoed for safety, I'm getting some injector duty cycle numbers higher then ideal but I new that was going to be the case until I upped my fuel pressure a tad and get a tune, but it seems to be hanging on to the shifts pretty well.

I don't think you would get a cumulative effect with a shift kit as the "hardware mod" would surpass the signal manipulation the HKS ALC does.

The whole point is that a shift kit will cost about $400 plus fit plus fluid plus filter, about an estimated $800.

The HKS ALC is for stock to mildly tweaked TT's, once you start running lower then mid 12's its out of its depth in my opinion.

And please note it wont fix a shagged auto. :)

So if not on WOT, are the shifts still harsh and quick? Or is it dependent on how heavy you press the accelerator down?
You reckon you'd have to get it tuned after install?

    Definitely no tuning required.

    Nothing harsh about the changes.

Yes it seems to firm up with more throttle %.
