    You say I am sort of on track but in your opening line you say I have the right idea, what do you mean? Also the following sentence to me does not make much sense, could you please clarify;
Are you saying a Power FC is basically a factory computer with extras? Too bad it can't be used with a slush box. I would also doubt it's ability to allow an engine pass an emissions test as well.

Regarding increasing boost on a stock tune, you are right saying that it is possible to increase boost on a stock Jap tune and yes it will make more power than most A/M chips but as you well know, make more power with a leaner AFR or advanced timing and your risk factor escalates. If I had access to the fuel the Japanese put in their cars, I would have no issues whatsoever running the stock tune, but to increase boost to a level that delivers extra heat to the cylinder charge air temp that compromises safety due to our crap fuel (not to mention if you got a bad batch), I would much rather protect my engine with a tune that is appropriate.

I agree, only if for optimising engine output. First you say that you don't understand peoples belief that you can't overboost a stock tuned Zed but then you say ALL TUNE CHANGES MUST be done on a Dyno. Most off the shelf tunes I have seen basically leave the fuel map alone and just retard the timing slightly up top to reduce chance of detonation with a few little changes to RPM limiter, VTC release and Speed Limiter Disabled, these are the off the shelf tunes in my opinion are aimed at the person who wants a safe performance increase without spending mega bucks for dyno time and for most tuning workshops, the extra outlay for an interceptor or stand alone engine management.

I meant you are on track for factory driveability. Yes Power FC is based on factory computer with tunability and more features, read outs and logging. YES Power FC would pass emissions better than factory as it does not run as rich as factory, which normally are very rich. You state if you don't touch fuel and retard timing you will lose power. Better to spend money and get a result and be safe, rather than spend less money and be dangerous by increasing rev limit and go backwards other than speed cut which is only for race track anyway. We hve seen many motors fail due to chips although mainly Skylines. Also from what I heard these chips that usually don't work cost a fair bit, like $750 or more and what do you get? If custom chip tuned on dyno different story but sounds like you still think plugging in a chip, with NO INCREASE IN BOOST, will give certain power.

This thread will be deleted/locked if UAS doesn't stop

making slanderous comments toward another company. John, you have cautioned others about making unsubstantiated allegations in the past so please follow your own advice.

Where are the slanderous comments about a specific company?
My reading of this thread(particularly the UAS comments) leads me to the conclusion that these comments are referring to aftermarket "plug in" chips in general, not to any specific business IMHO.
JP has qualified his remarks on several occasions by stating that engine failures he refers to are mostly related to Skyline/GTR's rather than Z32's.

Sorry Mark, but I believe you have misinterpreted this thread content by UAS.:zlove::zlove:

Based on what i have heard you are more likely to pass emissions if you are running richer as it changes the chemical balance in the exhaust gas and has less of the actual chemicals they test for

    OK then

In a way I am glad you brought this up and I will explain.

Firstly I was talking generally. This forum is amazing asitseems to breed the bull crap and bling talk and not facts. Nothign is doen and no warnings when it is fairly clear that someone was making slanderous remarks about a company and or person or both. Last week a forum memeber "mikemd" I think it was with hidden persoanl details calling me dishonest, with other implications and "Ports" even asked where are the moderators and nothing done. Inthis thread I am talking about our actual experience and input and you call it slanderous. Look up the word slanderous and check out when it is used legally. I will save you and others the effort, basically a negative comment and made up as in non factual then it is slanderous. I am and always against bull shit and exaggerations and stories made up by some forum about people, products or companies, as THIS IS slanderous.

Shifter commented on the actual problems he has had with his car. I have not commented on his car in relation to this chip exactly either up to now, which in our professional experienced opinion was the main and probably only cause for his original non turbo engine to fail. We have tested many chips including Hi Tech chips on zeds and one was detonating and lost power. This is our findings althou others may benefit. I am simply informing people on this forum of our experience which is what it is about isn't it? Also I suggest they check it on dyno and the potential problems if one does not. Substantiated professional experienced opinions are NOT slanderous. You should put this in your forum guide lines and enforce it.

Furthermore I will offer our dyno facility to test any Hi Tech Chip on your zed and do before and after to see at no charge. There should be one work although we have not seen it yet.

    Definitely not!

No I do not think just plugging in a chip off the shelf will make more power at stock boost levels, I know it will not.

When you make a tune 'SAFER' it comes at the cost of reduced performance, I know that you know that better than most people.

    I also said this;
So ask this question to the numerous TT owners who are getting around with off the shelf chips that are running 14PSI if they would be willing to run the risk of a blown engine on a warm day when they unfortunately got a dodgy batch of fuel all for the sake of an extra 20RWKW on an OEM Jap tune?

Well when it comes to price, business is business. Some services and products you will find at better prices for the same result elsewhere, you know that better than anyone. Some businesses will charge big dollars for a product they believe is better than others and it's up to the consumer to believe it is better.

Just to put a little spin on things I will put a little summary together just to display in my opinion when it comes to cost effectiveness, what gives a better value for money result.

    Stock ECU Remap.
    • PROM removal and socket $100
    • Dyno tune, range between $300 and $600
    • Total Cost around $500
And before anyone says that is an assumption, that is what it cost me to retune my car and only because I was learning it at the time. Now I've learn't how changes to the binary respond in real time I could take another $200 off that price. There is a couple of forum members who will also confirm this pricing is fairly ballpark.

    Now lets fit an SAFC and Tune;
    • Apexi Super AFC $695
    • Fitting time if done in shop $100-$200
    • Dyno Time about $200-$300
    • Total Price about $1100
Price may be a bit less if you instal the SAFC yourself. So remapping the stock ECU comes in at around half this price already. The other thing that needs to be realised is the SAFC can't alter any global settings in the binary like rev and speed limiter, VTC release speed or even specifically dial in the exact amount of ignition timing at a specific rev range and load which is absolutely crutial for an optimised tune. There are other nice little features I won't bother going into detail with that SAFC can't even dream of touching. So for double the price you get a setup that does not have even half the capability of a stock remap.

Now the big kahuna, Apexi Power FC!!!
    • Power FC between $1200 and $1600. As far as I know, UAS is one of a handful of people who can instal these to a Z32 and instalation costs are about an extra $500 on these prices.
    • Dyno Time about $200-$300 for a modest tune but to utilise the features this unit has this figure ends up more like $500-$600.
    • Total price $2500-$3000+
An important aspect to note is this and most other standalone systems will not allow the auto transmission owners to drive their cars any longer, so there goes 1/3-1/2 of the market for them anyway.

Don't get me wrong, the Power FC and other standalone engine management systems have their place but for the average person chasing respectable power increases of around but not restricted to 350RWKW, this can be achieved for less than a 1/4 of the price.

Double standards... posts come up almost every week "UAS did this...UAS charged me for that...I was at a tech day and somebody was there who'd been charged $19000 for UAS to inspect their car...don't buy from UAS they do dodgy work" with no comments from mods. What's so bad or for that matter incorrect about anything that john has posted in this thread?????

    Agree

A few prices a bit much like Power FC fitted and tuned unless it is D Jetro then a bit more actually but more features and no AFM problem.
If actually tuning on dyno and rewriting chip to suit the car then great value and result for money yes.

Not in WA  I know because I am looking to get this done very soon, currently saving up the $. I have gotten a few quotes, ranging from between $880 to $990, almost double what it cost you

I think this was in referral to the the thread TITLE "HiTech ECU", John has been saying that aftermarket ECU chips that aren't specifically tuned for each car are dodgy. This could be seen as a direct comment on the HiTech unit.

Exactly. We had to respond to a VTD

from someone who threatened litigation against UAS and by reference the forum.

John has since responded that he did not in fact refer to Hitech, so case closed. Thanks John.

Please everyone, the full story behind most of these flare-ups are almost never shown so please understand that at times we have to make these calls (even if we don't want/like to).

    :(

    OK

I understand and as I told them and stated on forum I was talking generally mostly and when being specific I am only relating our findings or test results and professional experienced opinions and advice.

For the record can I say I will take legal action from any future, and throw in past bull talkers and sh.... stirrers, story makers, exaggerators, lyres that feel the urge to kick the cat, as can't hack it in the real world in most cases, and want to throw mud and make slanderous marks, being negative non fiction false statements against me or UAS.

I would not do this but can at least state if for the record to get some action ? by moderators... It is a discussion forum after all and people stating opinions in a democratic society. As mentioned as long is fact and not fiction. It seems those that are in the know and stating facts get trodden on and neg balls with opinions even when wrong and negative get a medal or at least accepted. Hey what??? I am NOT referring to anyone in this thread I don't think at least none of the comments in this thread. I don't think anything is in breach of forum guidelines in this thread and nothing slanderous including what I have stated? Everything I have stated is based on facts and professional experience and professional opinion, I also have dyno that stores all rego numbers and dyno runs and everything from ambient temps and humidity etc to air fuel ratios to boost if turbo, hp, kw, torque and job cards with comments from experienced qualified zed mechanics.

Back on the subject has anyone got a before and after dyno result from a chip to show it actually worked without changing base timing, parts on the car or BOOST?? There must be someone as I am sure there are plenty out there with various chips, and surely you aren?t flying blind as such??

Surely the whole purpose of re-writing the programming of the stock ecu is to assist in the safe running of higer boost and increased timing to increase power? The Hitec website makes no claims to their ECUs alone increasing power but instead states,

    Increase timing

Incresed timing is the potential problem.

I have not checked this but assume it is right what you have posted WYKKED.
Last sentence referring to naturally aspirated cars, "optimising fuelling and timing providing a substantial improvement over "stock" performance levels.

total cost for my SAFC installed and dyno tuned by UAS

Grand Total of $700 for a 22rwkw gain, fuel efficiency has increased to the point that it may have paid for half of that, and the car is completely different.
