My zed is playing up and just wondered if anyone else has had this problem, and might know what it is. It runs fine and starts without a hitch but as soon as it warms up (temp needle just below half) it starts to miss slightly and is really sluggish (like its flooded). If I excellerate it seems to clear and comes good again and seems to stay that way. Anyone got any ideas or advise? It is a 1991 NA, it has had its 100k service etc and while getting that done the injecters were sent to be cleaned. Thanx for you time, any help appreciated. :) :zlove:
    Cheers Fran

    First thing to try

is check all your electrical connectors. This is a common problem with common symptoms.

I'd start with the Injector connectors first and PTU connectors, check for green corrosion and clean them off with contact cleaner and scrape them clean. Also check coil pack, crank angle sensor, tps, water temp sensor, afm connectors.

Check the tech section for more detailed instructions on checking these.

This is the first step (which is also the easiest) to help fix your problem. if problem still persists, you may need someone to help and diagnose with datascan for some beers. :zlove:

Will see how I go. Strange thing is I didn't have this before I got the service, coincidence perhaps? I know they lost or broke a couple of the injector connector covers that are on the top.

Most likely the harness has been disturbed during the service and as Benny has indicated, the connectors overtime get awfully corroded.

    That would be right...

when they do a service, they can bump and upset old wires and connectors.
I'd check and wobble some wires/connectors around while engine is running rough to try to locate the fault. may speed up your fix if you notice it corrects itself all of a sudden when you wiggle a particular connector.

If that doesn't locate anything, see my original post and check/clean all of them properly to eliminate them all. ... and go from there. good luck :zlove:

I had your exact problem mate. For me it turned out to be one of the o2 sensors.

Basically it was faulty and overfuelling while cruising along, but put the boot in and the engine uses a different fuel map and bypasses the o2 sensors so car ran good. Then it would be fine for a while after that.

Other indicator to suggest o2's in your case is that they don't operate till the car has warmed up, and that's when you say your problem starts.

Easiest way to check o2's is with datascan. Get the car to operating temp and watch both o2 sensors. they should go back and forth quite rapidly. One of mine was acting very sluggish so I just replaced both.

Good luck sorting it out anyway.

Yes, and a way to test

quickly and easily (without the need for datascan) is to simply disconnect both O2 connectors. Your car will run fine with them disconnected (just not as good fuel economy)
So if you disconnect them and it starts running fine again, you know that is your problem. If problem still exists, it may be more than that.

From memory you are from Newcastle?
If so, some of the people from newcastle zeds have datascan, and can help diagnose / lend a hand if needed. PM me if you need a hand and i can have a look at it for you if you want

Check spark plugs too, mine did the same thing and after new plugs it runs fine.

If you are going to clean harness connections get yourself one of these from Jaycar or similar supplier. Does the best job and also the most easy to use.

Well I disconnected the drivers side O2 sensor

and went for a drive and my zed ran fine, so looks like it must be the O2 sensors. Looks like I will be up for a couple when I have the cash, then it's a matter of installing them (well getting the old ones out anyway), which I hear can be a real pain  Thanx for all your help and advise

Oh and Mitch thanx for the offer

but I now live in Hervey Bay. Might be visiting relatives in a couple of weeks though so who knows still might take the offer up, with a hand putting them in.

soak for a few days first

get some inox or penetrene and soak around the 02s a few days before you are ready to take out, that might help loosen things up a bit.
Just a little hint, hope it helps Andy
