Hi all. I was using an extended wrench to tighten my battery positive terminal when the wrench came in contact with the plenum...which let off a suite load of sparks.

I tightened the terminal, car started fine idled fine but would rev over 3000rpm, it would just hesitate and not go over 3000rpm.

So Iimped back home and check fuses and all were ok.

Any idea what I did? Car has had no issues at all and has been running perfectly.

    Saftey mode perhaps?

I cant go to the garage now to rev the car as my daughter is asleep...hug suggestions for the morning would be appreciated.

to start with I would disconnect the batter (for 30 min) and let the ecu reset.

then try again... you could have fried so many things.. if still a problem

check, CAS, MAF, PTU, TPS, coils, injectors, ecu .... etc...

much easier if you had replacement parts to test... good luck.

    Thanks mate, appreciated the help.

I had a quick look before I left for work and the Apexi AVR boost controller looks like is reset itself....

All boost/duty cycle settings appear to have been reset....so no doubt that will do it. I'll turn that off, take it for a drive and if that doesnt fix it I'll check everything else.

    Symptoms point to AFM fault.....

If the AFM malfunctions the ECU will substitute the throttle sensor signal (this usually limits rpm to 2400 but is still drivable).

You should also look to see if your 'check engine light' on the dash is pemanently lit...... this signifies the ECU has malfunctioned and accessed the 'fail-safe system'

ok I thought it might have been something specific as it hesitated right on the or before the 3000rpm limit...

its not driveable over 3000rpm though...it just stutters and wont rev higher.

Check that all your negative battery earths and plenum earths are in place.
Where bouts did the wrench come into contact with the plenum?

I recall a similar issue when my Zed was only beating on 4 cylinders due to old coil pack connectors.

It would also be a wise idea to check the rest of your sensors / check for vac / boost leaks / clean connectors (Injectors, Coil Packs, CAS, TPS, IACV, AAC, O2s ~ PRVR, EGR, AIV solenoids if you have them still).
