It all started Sunday afternoon @ about 4pm. I had just finished installing my new slotted rear rotors and detailing my calipers. I took my car for a spin around the block and upon first hard acceleration she began to putter. It was like she was running on 5 cylinders and i use the word LIKE.

Now to set a few things aside, i was first told possible bend rod, but i would think i would be blowing some black smoke should this be the case (i'm sure i will be corrected if not).

My car is still making full boost, and it is only at about 4000rpm and up that you begin to feel it. It somewhat feels like i am getting vibration from the engine or better yet like the car feels very lumpy when getting up there.

Whilst my wife followed me home and i gave it a small serve of Terry :D :D and she was blowing slightly less smoke from my turbos than before. Now this may or maynot seem relevant, but i would thought i would list things that have changed.

Would appreciate some feedback on things to look out for.

    Thanks.

    Tezza

Give your PTU and CAS connectors a clean. Also do an ECU diagnostic, that can give you some clues if it's electrical - if you don't have access to a computer and cable, try the manual dignostic here. A boost leak test wouldn't go astray either.

Relax Tez, I highly doubt a bent rod...you would have had to put some punishment into it, or water.

No I'd check your coil pack plugs and make sure one hasn't popped off when the engine torqued. My black one used to do it a fair bit until I fixed them properly.

Same goes for vacum hoses...you could have split a major one when the engine torqued as you where giving it some terry.

Other than that do the usual...check engine codes, check each and every injector and coil plug, CAS, PTU and AFM plug, and blow the engine up to check for leaks. That should narrow it down.

BTW is it lumpy on idle...it may help to narrow down the offending cylinder.

It doesnt feel lumpy at idle, but i will have to do all the test

once i get access to them. I need assistance in that department as i dont have any of them lying around... If a coil pack popped off, would i not be expereincing a misfire? My afm wouldnt allow that much flow if the conector was shot would it?

Anyone have a conzult and blow up tester handy for testing tomorrow sometime? I want to get this out of the way before i decide to buy another car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BY the way, how the hell are ya Andy? Its been a long time since i have been on here.. I have a new surprise to share with everyone but i will post in a different thread so i dont hijack my own!

Thought of a few more while your out and about testing....

Does she happily rev in neutral without any "puttering" ?
No - Could be coil, injector or PTU plug related

When it "puttered" under load was it like a jarring fuel cut?
Yes - Could be CAS connector

If it's more of a stuttering, hesitating sorta thing (damn my vocabulary is brutalised tonight) as the engine loads up around the 2500+ range, or anywhere in positive pressure then it could be that you've split a hose some where post turbo. ie, the intake is pressurised your releasing metered air out and the mixture become increasingly rich. Does it hold boost?

    Mr lloyd

You are correct. Keep an eye out on the non z rated page for an update.

Thanks Andy, will keep those in mind whilst testing.

Terry did you bleed your abs system?

I think if you do that it should be fine because maybe, just maybe.. your car ECU thinks you want to brake when your revving it past 4000rpm and its trying to slow down while your accelerating causing it to stutter.

Another thing it might be is that you didnt detail the calipers properly. post some pics and ill tell ya if it looks good or not. ;)

ps: congrats, the baby looks like you. (shaven though, and cuter :p)

Ahhh Ali, i miss ya man... Its been a long time..

Bleeding the brake system wont make a difference i dont think, especially after a rotor change.

Appreciate the comment about the baby. I would expect it to be cuter than me based on the fact that i have 26 years on her.. But you have to admin and am damn good looking for my age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if i was a chick you would go for me, admit it, eye brows and all....

Anyway enough hijacking.. I will be running some tests on it tomorrow, so will let you know what the go is.
