I have been having trouble with a slight misfire and in the process of chasing it decided to swap ECU's. The one in the Zed was a Top Secret chipped ECU that had the rev limiter set to 8,500 RPM, so I wasn't happy with that anyway.
I copied the bin to my laptop, dropped the rev limit to 7,000 RPM and wrote it to another ECU that has my Ostrich in it. The car didn't like it. It was missing like hell, so I tried another standard ECU that I had laying around. Then the real trouble started. I over tightened the ECU plug bolt and the bolt head came off. Now I'm stuck with an ECU in my car that won't run and I can't remove it.

Should be able to use a screw/bolt extractor

I don't think I could get one in there if I had one. I am going to try to use some Araldite and stick another bolt to it

You should be able to get one in there. You can buy ones small enough for that bolt size. Remember they work by drilling a hole in the centre and inserting the extractor into the hole

Getting one is a problem too. I have one car and it's currently in my driveway and not running.

I have glued an extension for an allen key type driver onto it. I'll wait half an hour and give it a go. Hopefully there won't be much tension on the thread.

That didn't stick at all. Tried drilling the end but my eyes aren't what they used to be and the drill bit keeps slipping. Just tried sticking the allen bit on again.

Mate have a good look at the wiring above the bolt .
Pretty positive I see wires that are bare. Around the Green/Black and Green/Light Green wires?.
That might be a major problem right there.
    Cheers Dave

As for the bolt put a drill bit in the plug hole that fits tight then drill a little bit to mark the centre. Now that the centre is marked you should be able to swap down to a drill bit that is small enough for a Grabbit or easy out to go in. Some super glue on the end of a allen key let sit for an hour might just come out. Make sure you disconnect the battery before working in that area. Also can you pull the cover off the e.c.u and back the bolt off from inside the case with long nose pliers to lossen it enough to glue the allen key on the back out because it is only the first bit of undoing that is breaking the glue.
    Best of luck Dave

    It's going :)
I had to use a worx type plunge cutting saw to get closer to the broken bolt, then use a drill mounted die grinder to get rid of enough of it to remove the plug from the ECU. Had to be careful so I could re-use the plug. I need the car to get to work tomorrow.
Looks like I'll be having more of a play next weekend.

Haha, never speak too soon when it's a Zed.....
I taped up those bare wires you saw. Thanks for that by the way.
It was running well, so I bolted the ECU back into position and then it wouldn't start. I unbolted it again and away it went. It can stay there now. I'm almost pulling my hair out lol.

At least I know I can get to work during the week and to 8 ball tomorrow night. Big match tomorrow too :)

As for writing to the Ostrich. I am hoping I have done something wrong. Perhaps someone that knows what they are doing can enlighten me later.

Thanks for your help guys and happy Zedding :)

    Hi,

the reason the bolt is on the connector for the ecu is to ensure that it stays on just right.
If the bolt is missing, done up to tight or too loose you risk bad connections and running issues.

    make sure everything is right.

    good luck

    Thanks.
I have put another bolt in its place and it holds it nicely.
