Damn, I'll see if I can find what I sent.
I'm not sure I want to remember exactly what I did :D.
It wasn't pretty that's for sure :bash:

That's nice to know. My modified lamp bases were a product of the ends justifying the means mindset. A victory for functionality over form. :D

Maybe we could check who has the ugliest version at Warwick?:biggrin:

Thanks Angry .. no wonder your angry.

I will keep this printed and ready to go ..

I'm waiting to get the Highbeam housing locking clips (another set) before I begin ...

but its looking like I will seek the assistance of an auto electrician to work with on this once the re-fabrication is complete.. armed with your diagrams .. TY to all concerned Angry, Karl Pex ... many heads are better than one

But thank you for this info .. I'm sure it should be added to the Tech section in one form or another because in the next 10 years there are going to be heaps of people going down the illumination road .. HIDs all round.

    ITS ALL ABOUT THE EARTH

I Just spent some time this arvo setting up the High beam HIDs

(bugger of a job BTW. I took a lot of photos on the way, may do a tech rundown, as I would guess there are going to be plenty of others doing it in the next couple of years)

    BUT

Now Lows and Highs all work independently during testing and setting them up.

As soon as Bolted them onto the body (earth) they all come on at once.. = same as you angry ...

But when I unbolt the Highs from the body they work in the correct sequence again.

I have bought relays .. but I am thinking that I intend to attach to the engine bay with cable ties .. (using ties larger than those provided).

but there is hardly any room to bolt them up anyway .. so by cable tying to the Air intakes, I will have no need for relays ..

Is this likely to cause any problems ?? If its not 'earthed' IE Bolted up, is there a chance that they may be more likley to vibrate and flicker or anything like that ?? So far it doesn't seem to be the case.

    Comments ?

I had all four HID ballasts sitting on cardboard and still had the same 'all or nothing' effect, until I used the relay.

What you are suggesting should be OK I guess, except that I would never attach anything with a cable tie. I only use them to tie cables.

See the pic of my mounting in my Victorious post. That was a piece of cake to do (you will need to use the relay) and the angle bracket came off the shelf at Bunnings - a deeply wonderous place. :)

I did have one extra problem I should report. Because the cables are so short, I had to move my alarm siren forward so I could bolt the ballast close up to the rear. In the Qld wet, the effect of this was to give the alarm siren a good drenching resulting in its refusal to turn off. So I drove down the road for about 10km looking for a dry place to pull over with the siren going full on. Bit like an unmarked police car really. :D

I drove back last night from Qld with the 4 HIDs doing their stuff. Superb!

Maybe I'll try to get them onto a bracket but isolate the bracket and not allow an earth ..

IE, Plastic bracket or rubber shim to isolate the alloy bracket and plastic wing nut setup or the like ....

The whole Relay thing looks like another link in the chain that could fail at some time and I would rather do less is best philosophy ... if it remains unavoidable then I'll do the relay option.

    but

    Thanks Barry ... appreciated
