    Re Seals

Document in Tech section on 100,000 Km service says that these seals are the same. Certainly they are the same size as I've just changed mine. I bought mine at CBC and they are identical seals. Whether Nissan stipulate a different rubber in the seals or a different tension in the pressure spring I don't know.

CBC is definitely a lot cheaper than Genuine

When I did my 100K service I stuffed up when I put in the new crank seal. CBC had an identical seal for I think around $3.50, Genuine was $14. CBC has a huge listing for the Z32 for belts bearings and seals. Also, send CnsZ a PM, he works at a bearing shop and does great deals for forum members. Wish I knew about him when I did my service.

Re: Cam/crank seals the same :D

The number I have for crank is : 13510-10Y10 though which is different again..... also has no spring in the back of it if that is what "Vice" was talking about.

All parts supplied in this kit are genuine Nissan.

    Part no's

The part 'description' no's I listed in my initial post are straight off parts fiche/FAST.

Subsequent part no's & alternates are off Coz's computer.

I'll run 13510-10Y10 thru FAST and see what it comes up with ... stay tuned.

    K-zed Secret Squirrel

13510-10Y10 is listed as Crank Seal

No cross reference on FAST, as far as I can see, so maybe slightly different to cam seals ....?

Coz cross-references the 2 seals though, so assume crank seal can be used for cams no prob. (?)

Make sure you get the high temp ones.. (Viton, ACM)

Or something of the sort. I know CBC try and sell the NBR (Nitrile) ones all too often.
Just check the brand when you buy it (from CBC), if its NOK its basically the genuine seal, if it's KOK or some weird ass brand, I'd be a bit wary. All our cam/crank seals for every car are Viton (Reddish/Orange in colour). NBR one's will be lucky to see a year out before their lip goes rock hard.
    Cheers,
    Will

    Confused about seals!!

The seals I took out of my car which I was sure (not so now) were original were NOK AH2342F. These have the pressure spring around the circumference. The seal I bought from Nissan for the crankshaft is 1304216V00 even though the receipt states it as a camshaft oil seal which would indicate that Nissan Australia considers them the same. This seal also has the pressure spring. The seals I bought from CBC are 13042-42L00 and have the spring. But the ones from Coz doesn't have this spring it seems but relies perhaps on the elasicity of the rubber? What worries me after Will's comment above about nitrile is whether the CBC oil seals will do the job. The guy at CBC (the manager) assured me that they were definately for automotive use (I was worried about them being so cheap). Rob (K-zed) refers to the 13042-42L00 number earlier. Although I've changed the seals I haven't done much else to the car so I could change them again. Any comments will be gratfully accepted. Clive.

    Re: Confused about seals!!

yes it is confusing. I am going to take Coz's word for it. I am sure he has sent out a few.:)this is the email I sent and the reply
These are the items TTZ quote as Cam Seals... but they do not quote Cranks seal anywhere I can find

These are the items delivered to me : Oil Seal-Crank : 13510-10Y10 .... with and without flash ...

Yes Alan I am sure that Coz is right - it's the comment on the nitrile

seals which has me confused. From what I can gather after looking through the Net most automotive oil seals are made from nitrile but the viton material that Will mentions seems a better material to use but it will probably make the seals more expensive. It seems to be a new material and able to handle greater heat. I think I will stick with what I have but and see how they go. Clive.

Hey Will thanks for this information - where did you get your viton seals

from and what is the make and part number. I still might replace my seals if I think it is worth it. But I still get the impression that most oil seals sold are made from nitrile but I could be wrong. Cheers. Clive.

    Re: Confused about seals!!

The seals from nissan (that i received from coz) all had springs on the inside.

    Here are some specifications...

Nitrile - Good to temps of about 105 Celcius..
Viton - Good to continuous temps of 200 C and intermittent temps of 315 C.
    Polyacrylate - Good to temps 175 C

Viton is usually reddish in colour. Nitrile is Black. And Polyacrylate is a more shiny black. Kinda difficult to tell the difference between those last two. All oil seals have the spring loaded lip. I can guess that our Viton seals are probably around the $5-6 mark, not overly expensive. But our Polyacrylate seals are cheap as, and will do the job. Thats what the NOK seals are made of. So I wouldn't be too worried if the CBC rep told you that they are the automotive ones. I have had trouble sometimes with them "listing" nitrile seals for cam and crank applications, which I wouldn't recommend for any car.

    Hope this helps,
    Will
