hey guys, Trying to get my car up to scratch for when i get the fulls and i gots me a good few problems... problem 1: my speedo isnt working, as in the case of it only says either 60km(when in motion) and 40km(after motion at standstill). I had the tech at work fix up all the problem dry joints we could see under the scope and it lasted like... not even 20mins run time before it happened again. Could this happen to be the speedo sensor or something else?? problem 2: i have a unknown humming/whining noise very quietly while the engine is running, it isnt a vac line or leak causing it but its coming from the front of the engine, thats all i can really tell. problem 3: the rear 2 or possibly 4 cylinders are making a tap tap tap noise each rev. except for when more than 1000rpm off idle. Im hoping this isnt anything too major.. Please if anyone can help me i need anything u can offer, its got me stuffed and im almost ready to just take it to a very reputable performance mech in town to get it checked out so i know what the causes are so i can fix them..
could be alternater bearings or power steering pump,air con,or even water pump noise as for the tapping noise is a hard one could be lifters or a number of things maybe some other members have more but these could be some of the causes best of luck mate wayne
One of the tricks for fixing that lifter noise is run diesel oil through the engone for a day not on turbo boost, It has high detergent and unsticks most things real good then drain it and filter should be right matt
are you sure its lifter noise but ? I mean the fact it seems to die off when it revs OVER 1000 ? ... And so the speedo is cactus again.. Hmm not sure what that could be.. as i said mine didnt work at all then one day started working fine :S go figure. If you end up taking it to that mech.. before any ACTUAL work is done get a quote for work and any parts and refer it back here... Never know when a mech wont try to take you for a ride with any old performance car let alone a Z
My old NA did the same. Tappy at idle, quite with some revs. I think I'd just try a new speedo and see if that helps.
