Heater Pipe. Can this be removed?

My Zed Overheated yesterday - steam gushing out of the bonnet, which left me with little / to no coolant

A pressure test revealed a pin hole leak in one of the pipes at the back of the engine. Possibly a heater pipe? (see pictures below)

(Small Red arrow In First Picture points to where the pin hole is, where the pipe has very small subpipe adjoined that connects to a hose)

Can anyone possibly advise ..Is it possible to remove that entire pipe, with the engine in?

ill probly get flamed to death for suggesting this,but.....

would it be posible to get some high temp gasket maker/sealant/some shit like that......onto the pipe as a temporary fix till/if you ever pull the motor....
maybe this wont work but if it was my car, that what id be trying next:eek:

I have some good spares if you want a set.

You can also get to that pipe by dropping the gear box. I am not sure whats harder upper and lower Plenum or G.Box.

I had this exact same thing happen to me.. I used that putty epoxy metal stuff from Repco. Just knead it together and push it into the cleaned hole.

Mine has been like this for the last 3 months with no problem.

BUT I ALWAYS KEEP A KEEN EYE ON THE TEMP GUAGE !!!

I will be replacing it as soon as I can, though it has served me well as a temporary fix. It has even survived 50 laps of Wakefield.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

    Thanks for all the replys.

Can I just confirm that it is a heater pipe?

Uncle Dave: What do you think is the cause of the corrosion? Perhaps simply the pipes location in the engine bay or maybe its from bad coolant being run through the engine in the past.

I actually have a tube of that metal epoxy stuff... so I may give that a go as a temp fix for now..

It seems the only other way I could seal it closed is perhaps getting a powerful soldering gun and some solder? Im not sure what temperature these pipes get too but solder (90%+ tin) has a 231C melting point.. so that should be ok. Solder then metal epoxy over the top could be the go.

I think it's just from corrosion inside the tube. It is the feeder pipe for the heater and it's the cooland directly from the drivers side cylinder head.

My hole is just a pinhole but it was really pumping the fluid out. I would think this hole will get bigger over time so it's a priority to have it repaired or changed.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

You will find that pipe is the water supply into the engine (through the heater, which is why you have to join the two pipes when you do a heater by-pass). There are two small hoses attached to it, they are the turbo coolant returns. It would be do-able in-car, but not easy. Sorry not a good pic

Here's a pic after I mod'ed it but shows the two bolts that hold it on, and the two turbo return lines
