Thanks heaps to my son Toby who took over the job after I discovered that I am too big/clumsy to work successfully under the dash & did not have the experience & fortitude for a bitch of a job.
He did the job on my manual NA without removing dash by moving the clutch out of the way.
To flush out old coolant as best as possible he removed radiator & thermostat etc, as well as the overflow container, which was really grotty (& also discovered the hose to it was blocked.) Reckon I have a pretty clean cooling system now.    =)

Im in the process of removing

the dash to fix the peeling trim problem and I thought I might replace the heater core at the same time but you say its not required.
I know you dont have to remove the dash for the trim reglue either but both my plastic vent wont vome out and they just break bits off as I try.regards John:cool:

    Well.....

this is what I might try. I'll try the non dash removal first, but if it gets to a point where it just gets too tedious, off comes the dash..:)Cheers

Mark it will be tedious!! but...

I'm glad my dash did not come out. I reckon in terms of possible rattles & squeaks its best left alone.
However some guys have had theirs out a few times...
It probably comes down to a combination of these factors:
    your size... (I'm 194cm)...I failed
your experience...(Toby had done one before)... I failed
    your dexterity...(I'm getting old)...I failed
your determination...(well I tried for 3 hours on one screw!!)...I failed
your tool collection..(umm, mines limited)..failed again!
    possibly luck!?..missed out there too!
Now afterall that pessimism you will be real proud (rightfully so) when you have done it..all the best!!!
PS If there is someone to give you some help..just fetching spanners when you are wedged under the dash is a real help.

    IB ?????

    Point to note is...

the NA manual doesn't have a clutch booster so it would be easier in an NA manual than a TT manual.

Mark, I thought you found out that your Zed.

was fitted with a vaccum assisted clutch, fitted by some pussy foot in Japan and Spencer had disconected it. ???Andrew

    IB ?????

    If that is the case....

then you will need to remove the booster and clutch pedal assembly access the heater core.

    egghau SHIFT_what again?

    Booster too?

I didn't have to remove it, pedal assembly had to come off though.

    Well.....

when I was naive about zeds, I believed the "disconnected" story. However, I now believe that it was "removed". From memory, didnt you need a clutch booster on your car??? If so, I think I know where my clutch booster ended up. Anyone got a pic of the clutch booster?? I'm willing to bet money that it was removed from my car, and put into a car that needed it. Dont be surprised if you have my clutch booster Andrew..:( :(

    Easy to check Jedi

just stick your head under the dash and look where the rod joins the clutch pedal and see if it goes into a big black canister looking thing. Looks like the one in the engine bay that the brake master cylinder attaches too, only about half the size.

    IB ?????

It was the booster that prevented ....

the heater core coming out of the heater box.

Nothing would suprise me after the..>>

dealings I've had.Your right, yours would have been "umm-removed" at virtually the same time as I had my fitted.I wonder what other parts we have scored from each others Zeds ???, I've got your speed sensor and your've got mine. 8-} Andrew

    egghau SHIFT_what again?

    Wonder what I did

obviously didn't have that problem. I think Wykked Pete said you can take the heater box out by undoing the fan and evaporator box. I just loosened mine so the heater box could swing far enough around for me to remove the core and miss the booster. Having got that far by pulling the dash apart I DIDN'T want to undo anything else! Every time I undid something, I found another problem!

    our zeds are brothers......

dude, yours might be a 1994 TT and mine a 1990 NA, but considering that they sat next to each other on the boat from japan, and now share some "organs", I would say that makes them "related". If only mine was as trouble free as yours..:) I have sent the bushes by the way, hope you get them soon..:)Cheers

and you wanted the shift knob........

I remember the story..:) Luckily, your honesty got the better of you pete..:) Or was it because you have an auto and mine is a manual, so the shift knob wont fit..:):p :p :p hey, whens this tech day of yours happening?? Still June 13th???Cheers

    That is one of the.....>>

Nicest I've seen, and since the idea of one day converting mine to manual is still in the back of my mind I could have put it away for "later". Tech day is still on, and the long weekend in June is still the prefered option.
