I replaced a heater core in a Z yesterday (not mine this time!), and guess what? It failed in exactly the same place as the THREE that have failed in mine.
I have very little faith in genuine Nissan heater cores now.
I would be interested to see where others have failed.
I'll bet that if any of you guys still have the old heater cores that have failed, they leak where the core joins the tank adjacent to where the inlet pipe (with the tap on it) attaches.

    Natural place to fail...>>

The tank with the tap is the one that takes the thermal shock.

Looks like combined corrosion & erosion (n/m)

    How goes

How did you go fitting the slightly fatter non Nissan one? Wondering if your water up there is the culprit? Also Premix coolant cost more but might help.

I can hear water move around on start ...>>>

Is this a sign that it's going to go on me? When I start up in the mornings or while the radio is off I can hear water go though behind the dash, i.e heater core. The coolant levels are fine and it's not consuming any etc etc... So must either be normal? Or going to die.? Any one know.

    Mine does that too......

After just having replaced the heatercore about 2 weeks ago, I too can hear the movement of water from behind the dash. I hear it on initial startup and when I rev the car slightly. So far, as far as I can tell, my heatercore has not leaked and my coolant levels are fine. I think I may have a small amount of air trapped somewhere, which is causing the leak. I intend to "bleed" the cooling system for a long time this weekend and see if it goes away.

Bit of work with the dremel and got the 8

pipe mounting holes threaded and it looked like it was meant to be there! The Calsonic item looks of a much better quality when looking at where the core joins to the tank. Interesting too how the Calsonic one has QC (quality control) and "pressure test passed" stickers, where as the Nissan item has nothing.
I've been using Motul concentrate mixed with distilled/demineralized water.
Thanks again for the fast efficient service John.
