Evening Gents, My Zed went the way of all good Zeds that have come before it and shat itself with the heater core this afternoon. I knew it was coming because i could smell coolant but pop off she went and started gushing out. Managed to limp her home without cooking the head. Now my question to you is, i have been reading up on old posts about the removal of core + dash vs core only and i cannot seem to find anywhere a writeup of only the core. I will do a bypass tomorrow which will tide me over until the holidays when i have the time/money to replace the core but does anyone have the full write up? i have this URL http://www.aus300zx.com/tech/heater/heatercore.htm which seems to not be hosted anymore :bash: any help would be appreciated. Now yes before anyone flames me i have thoroughly searched through old posts and TwinTurbo.Net posts and cant find anything. Im just hoping that someone has an electronic copy on their PC Regards, Owen
I too have serached Owen with negative results. I can confirm that the link is dead as I have tried it a number of times. Simon are you reading this? Surely you can tell us where to go! Cheers Tony
doesnt look like you used the tech section though http://tech.aus300zx.com/a-z.html http://tech.aus300zx.com/heater/heatercore.htm http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=technical&msg_id=723192
Heater core or hose OK another question, The leaking from where ever seems only to be coming out on the passenger side footwell, NOT the drivers. i need to confirm this tomorrow in the morning BUT i remembered reading something about how its potentially a hose and NOT the heater core when there is a leak. can anyone confirm this? as im tempted to do the core replacement without dash removal this may affect things and want to be sure before i lift any tools
Theres no hoses on the inside of the cabin only hard pipes, so if it were one of the pipes leaking it would probably be at the gasket on the core anyway. Dont forget to inspect the ecu for any flooding.
Owen, the hose connections to the heater core are in the engine bay, behind the engine on the drivers side. The core itself has solid metal tubes fixed to the core structure so a leak on the pax side would suggest the core itself. The other bit which can fail is the tap which controls the water flow to the core but this is on the drivers side of the core. A dash-in repair is easiest on the auto . . . no clutch pedal to get in the way. You can do a dash-in repair on a manual if you disassemble ("No, no! Not disassemble" (Johnny 5)) the clutch pedal, but it's probably easier dash-out.
i am ,and chad beat me to it lol ,but ive got better techs than him   lol WARNING TO CHAD-DONT MESS WITH THE TECH SECTION WIZARD :bash: :bash: :banned:  Heater Core Removal Without Removing the Dash http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=technical&msg_id=901202 How to replace your heater core http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=technical&msg_id=968248
did the bypass this afternoon not a fun job at all having huge hands. the stock hose fasteners arent really large enough to get around the new EA hose confortably so had to pick up some new ones. took me much longer than i though because i really needed 3 hands but oh well guess that happenes every time. will have to wait until uni holidays in 3 months to do a full core replacement which i am NOT looking forward too
