Well, after one of my hatch hinges bloody SNAPPED, I've fixed the bugger. Big shout out to Jet Power for sending me some (very cheap ;) ) second hand hinges.
Didn't really take any pics but for future reference (i'm sure this will start happening to other early model Z32's in the coming years) but here are my thoughts:

-- DO NOT overtighten the bolts when bolting on the new hinges. Especially when bolting the hinge to the hatch, as I found. Just went an 8th of a turn too far and stripped the bolt. Luckily, I was able to drill it out and found a bolt of the same thread in my bolt tin that worked *thread not stripped* PHEW.
They don't need to be epic tight. I'd say safer to use some Loctite and not overtighten
-- This job CAN be done by yourself. Don't listen to all the nay sayers. The wires also do not need to be disconnected, there is enough slack to just edge the hatch backwards til you have enough room to get the hinge off of the hatch (after you've gotten it free from the car first)
-- Remember to detach and reattach the rear window washer tube.
-- use some sort of sealant (NOT silicone) on the body when putting the hatch with hinges back in place.

Took me maybe an hour all up taking my time, and with the stripped bolt issue.

    Happy zedding :zlove:

Alls well that ends well. Put gas struts back on earlier, and at present cleaning up the rest of the interior ready for a keen buyer to come along and have a gander on Monday :)
