Hi all, 2 questions.... Has anyone heard of ditching the PTU from their system as using Haltec stand alone computer with Splitfire coil packs? What part does the PTU play with standard ECU and std coilpacks?
Cheers rob- thats all i needed to hear- buying a new ptu now Cheers rob- thats all i needed to hear- buying a new ptu now
Very rare chance of buying a faulty Series 2 PTU. If you are still running the Series 1 you will need to change over the plugs or get one with a patch harness. There's a guy on the FB page selling them cheap, might be the same guy here! Got to remember the PTU is simply a switch, there is no performance item available simply due to the simplicity of application.
If you want to ditch the external PTU you need coilpacks with a built in ignitor, I think the Audi R8 kit has built in ignitors.
Haltech here myself. S2 Ptu's very rarely fail so buying new is ... Have a S2 Ptu & a Full Plug and play harness here, $122 Shipped australia wide, pm me for details. Cheers Zane
Zano I am trying to get rid of misfires after a full gears worth of boost I've tried new plugs, different heat range, different gaps I've tried new coil packs (as above) I've leaned the fuel out in higher boost range (don't comment- it is still safe at 11 parts fuel)- i'll be trying 12 parts fuel tomorrow but i don't think it's that) The only thing left is PTU (it was brand new series 2 and brand new series 2 loom less than 5000kms ago) Or the CAS After that wiring If none of the above, I am going with seals in one of the turbos or a head gasket both only under high boost levels so impossible to check On a side note that may be relivent- i had the laptop on a drive tonight, the timing jumped from 10 to 25 a few times- this is why i am thinking maybe CAS Dam annoying
Well there's your problem. Time to upgrade your coils or look at something like this https://conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=260
No I'm only running 23psi so don't have issues with spark blowout. They look good though and plenty of people DO use them.
What plugs when did it start missing could simply be fouled plugs What gap ? 27 psi damn you running race gas or e85 ? Ps split fires caused misfires on my zed specialty zed won't touch them either ! Go back to stock coils check your basics first base timing fuel pressure etc I went back to stock coils and was able to run a lower heat range plug with no miss so don't always believe the hype !! 99% of the big hp cars in the U.S. Run stock coils I run a hks Dli and there nice helps performance at idle aswell
None of my build is up and running yet. Use Splitfires with the Hks or no splitfires at all. I'm not experienced enough to comment on your symptoms though. (I actually purchased my Splitfires from WazTTed if my memory is right) Thats what im running with, ..will see how it goes etc. If your problem is as members suggest, haltech has their version of an ignition amplifier. ...Might work out cheaper. Dont know if that helps
If you read theese numbers from the laptop then that is the timing that the ecu is commanding. The ecu have no clue at all if that is the timing the engine actually fires at. It just assume it is. If theese jumps happen during the missfires then it is probably cause fluctuating manifold pressures puts the ecu in mapcells with different timing numbers.. If you want to know if timing ACTUALLY is jumping around (wich it most likely is if you are running stock cas and haltech) you have to hook up a timing gun and shoot timing during a pull. Obviously this will be difficult and dangerous without a dyno tho... Splitfires are, as mentioned above, a downgrade compared to stock coils. Do you have the stock casdisk in the cas?
So it performs fine under load but missfires after a pull? It is unlikely to be coils in that case. I would say it's either the plugs fouling up or its loosing ring seal after the pull, possibly from detonation You need to do a proper plug reading. Do a high rpm pull, immediately stop the car and remover a spark plug. Post a pic if you don't know how to read plugs properly yourself Cheers
Or possibly pumped up lifters due too weak springs... Didnt really pick up on that part of the problem. So it is really AFTER a pull?
