I thought the JUN cams where meant to use solid lifters

They are nice but not worth the premium over the JWT parts.

You can actually buy planks from Courtesy parts and get them ground here by Crow. Wonder if its any cheaper?

What would be the best spec cam for what I'm after wtih the 28RS's - low end + midrange torque & spool assist - the JWT 400, 262 deg/.365 or the 264 deg/.375 - don't know much about cams, but I do know that bigger is not always better, if there's not much difference between these 2 - I guess I might as well go the bigger one then?

Any cam guru's (BLACKBEAST hehe) care to chime in?

More lift is always better up to ~12.5mm (negligible gains after that) according to a 60 year old book on engine tuning I found at uni a few years ago :p

Cams are one the most imporant parts that dictate where the engine makes power.

If you want a torque peak at lower rpm, go with R4, bigger isn't always better. The end result that does what you want is more important.

Hey Eric, having had the JUN and JWT items side by side.... yes both are ground to be used with hydraulic lifter (lash adjuster using JUN terminology) and in fact solid lifter JUN (lift of 10mm or more) are only available by special order.

JUN cams have smoother ramp rate than JWT. My original series 1 VTC intake cam gears (with around 160k) were fine (as in no chatter/noise) with JUN cams.

Also JUN cams do not have reduced base circle radius so preload on lifters is not reduced. I think we have talked about this before though? JP also has new billet cams available ground to same spec as Jun 9.5mm/.272".

I believe the JUN to be a better product but yes they come at a price premium.

BTW I am going to be in Brissy not next week but the week after (with the Z), will try and drop in and say hi.

Hey mate, you do not need to match cams to springs but you do need to match springs to retainers.

If you are going to JWT billet cams then yes you should upgrade springs. JUN are a better choice than JWT as they are higher pressure. I don't know about ferrea.

Be aware that if you plan to upgrade to titanium retainers you need to upgrade to JUN springs/retainers or Ferrea springs/reatainers. There isn't a titanium retainer avbailable that suits JWT springs.
