Hi all. I've had a look at a few sites and I think I have answered my own question but.... Can anyone confirm for sure that the internal wastegate components of a gt28r and gt28rs are interchangeable? Swing arm, butterfly, actuator etc. ? My research tends to suggest that yes this is the case and that the turbos differ only in the turbine wheel size or shape....which leads me to my next question...what is the physical difference between these turbos? Wheel size or wheel fin design? Can the wheels of an R and RS be interchanged? Thanks in advance for your replies.
GT28R - GT2560R Compressor - 46.5mm /60.1mm Exhaust - 41.7mm/53mm GT28RS - GT2860R Compressor - 47.2mm /60.1mm Exhaust - 47mm/53.85mm wheels are bigger in the GT28RS/2860R housings .60a/r comp and .64a/r exhaust are the same so waste gate will be too. .
The stock GT28R actuator is a monster ( unless they changed it over from what they used to supply) the new GT28R's I had the actuators where unuseable way too big. The GT28RS actuators are way smaller and more powerful. Be careful what you buy. GJ
The passenger side actuator on 28r-2560r is no problem, the drivers side is tight, but fits with a bit of bending to the flap tab as shown. I think this model turbo comes bent from coz now days. The frame size is the same for both turbo's.
Thanks Beaver. This is why I ask. I am going to run GT28rs's with external gates and already have a pair of gt28r's with the internal gates removed - nothing welded up. So I am going to get a set og GT28rs's from CZP and change the internal gates over. Just have to research how the gt28rs's actuators will work on the R...if at all. I can always purchase other actuators anyway.
You seen these external gate exhaust housings. http://www.procharge.com.au/online-.../garrett-gt-ball-bearing-series/gt3076r-gt28/ MAde for GT28RS's They are a lot cheaper from the US http://www.himni-racing.com/turboch...pecial-turbine-housing-gt28rs-gt2871r-gt2876r
definitely the way to do it . Tekky do you know if we have a enough room in our cars to fit a wastegate in that location ? (suppose can always make a bend/extension from there.)
I did see those tekky but I have 2560's now with no internal gate components as they were stripped to use external gates, but now want to upgrade to 2860's, so when I buy the new turbos I can just swap the internal gates over from the 2860s to the 2560s and sell the 2560s. The actuators will no doubt have diff spring pressures though but can just get some 2560 actuators.
They seem to be pointing the right way ( downward) But I really didn't look much closer. But check the AR, 0.71...... awesome for more power high up.
