I believe it goes like this,

    --Front--
    Cyl 1 : 130psi
    Cyl 2 : 135psi
    Cyl 3 : 130psi
    Cyl 4 : 137psi
    Cyl 5 : 130psi
    Cyl 6 : 135psi --Back--

    Bore scope:
    Nothing obvious found

Coil pack plugs are brittle & several are cracked.

The guy that did it said the results where good.
Engine had 120,000 Km's by the clock

I read from 300zxfourms.com that 121 PSI is considered minimum for a TTIt drives well, doesn't smoke doesn't do any thing it's not meant to as far as I can tell, other than the failed DET sensor.
I am thinking of buying it tomorrow, unless my mind is drastically changed

I got 170psi on all cylinder

But it's NA. I don't know if the cylinder being uneven is good or not.By the way, does it make a difference if the oil in the engine has smoke-stopping properties or not? If it does, then will the compression test show better result or will be the same as using normal oil? Because some dealer might use this to enhance the compression test results if that's the case and that's not good.I read some other posts from this forum about this. I need to clarify.:`(

    I believe..>

That you can put a small amount of oil into the cylinders from the sparkplug hole to temporally increase compression to determine if valves have gone etc..
But I would assume this would case smoke as the oil is burnt away. I am buying from a private seller.

    Uhm..

Pete told me that the rebuild-time compression on a tt was 130. He got 100 on the four cylinders they could get to before he had to go to work that day - I'm glad you took the time to find out :) Good luck with it-Erin

They seem a bit low to me......

but I could be wrong. Do a search, as other people have posted their compression results before. From memory, chickenbum had something like 150 across the cylinders for his TT. I would check before you buy a potential lemon.Cheers

    Info.>

With the bore scope they stick a camera into the block through the sparkplug hole and check out the pistons - valves - any thing in there, for excessive signs of ware or damage or any thing that should not be normal.

And the results were fine. The Mechanic also said the Compression was fine, this was a Performance workshop nominated by me for the car to go to. It's not like he hasn't worked on zeds before so I can see why it can't be good if he said the results are good. Plus What I read on 300zxclub.com and tt.net about acceptable compression. Unless the US motors are different? I will definitely be saving away for an engine rebuild if I buy it because I want to build it up with forged pistons etc and work it.
    Maybe in a years time?

    Ok....definitive answer....

130 is nothing to write home about.... the car has seem some action.   170 to 180psi is what a TT comes out of the factory at.   They are all within 14 psi of eachother, so the engine is in good nick overall. While the compression is low, the engine will last a long time before you will have to start thinking about a rebuild. Just be prepared for the fact that down the line you WILL have to rebuild, but not for quite a while if you treat it right.

    Agree...

lower compression, especially evenly low isnt the be all and end all of the engine. Especially since you say it runs fine and doesnt blow any smoke. It does indicate that the engine is getting old though but as ltd said you could probably drive for years without a problem.Cracked and brittle coil packs are part and parcel of the old zed Im afraid. A lot of cars have them zip tied down. Mine were in the past until I get a new wiring harness and new coilpacks to fix the problem. If you end up getting the car I have 3 of my old coilpacks with unbroken clips that I can swap you for broken ones if you like. Just zip tie the rest.

    I cant get over....

How quick it is like not even thrashing it I have not even opened it up in that way. Just like 3,800 - 4,000 rpm and less and its so quick, barley even on the Gas. And with the failed DET sensor and retarded timing there is still more to be had.
I can just dream what yours is like. !!!

The car is so TIGHT handling wise I love the feel of it. Feels very exotic and the build quality is outstanding.
I was cruising around with the roof off with the heater on full pelt because it was cold, but I wanted to pimp it off got so many looks from lovley ladies.
I am loving I would of been out driving all night but have work in the morning.

I could take you up on your coil pack offer, possibly at that tech day DUB was talking about in some other thread?

    missed that thread...

will have a look for it. Havent seen a mention of a tech day in WA for ages.Yeah the car is pritty damn sweet. Heads will always turn when the tops are off. The det sensor bypass is pritty easy. Drop around my place if you like and I can take care of it for you in about 2 minutes. How much boost are you running btw? Mine is pritty good fun, feels a bit like a rocket strapped to your car. Still scares the crap out of me :)

I think your absolutely correct, except>

for the compression(they are all within 7psi)=)
    Sound advice though.:YD Cheers

I was referring to the manufacturers...

specifications that say all cylinders should be within 14 psi of eachother.
