i am looking into installing a under drive pulley on my N/A ZED and i was wondering if a harmonic balancer is required???? cheers
This has been discussed in depth in a few threads already. Search the tech forum and you'll find its been discussed and bitched over many times But yes some say the engine is balanced internally and doesn't need the harmonic dampner and there are heaps of cars running around with many many miles with no problems. But at the same time some say it is a problem which you need to have the harmonic balancer for and that they have had vibrations without it. Best I can suggest is to go over the existing threads and make up your own informed decision.
There was also one for sale atm in "for sale ZR" at a good price, although I think it was "unorthodox racing", but still a top brand.
Yes. Actually i thought it was the GFB U/D pulley. maybe $150 off memory. Steal at that price cause new they are around the $275 mark. Caz1 also sells them new. I personally have a GFB U/D pulley. No vibrations at all, and about 15+HP gained. Highly recommended.
You're think here http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=275056 and I'm thinking here http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=270616
I think he knows which ones are for sale But he was chasing whether he'd see some gains on his NA and what the implications are regarding the fact that the light weight ones do not have a harmonic balancer. But as i've said best to search as the UDP/Harmonic Balancer discussion would be akin to the FMIC vs SMIC debate and we know how they end up lol
