Somebody suggests this is due to the diff bushes being worn. If so, where can I get them from?

The symptom is that the knob moves up and down violently but doesnt get out of gear. It moves up when I press the accelerator down, as soon as I lift off a little, it moves backward, it's like it has it's own mind. :p. Some people might actually enjoy a knob that moves around on its own, but not me.

I've changed the shifter bushing 2 days ago and can confirm the stuff underneath is all fine and I'm getting new dust cover to help insulate the noise from driveshaft.

    I doubt the diff bushes......>

Would cause the back of the gear box to lift up and down or rock from side to side. That is more likely to be worn or broken engine or gearbox mounts.

    Not worried?

 Well, it's not too much of a worry. But if something's broken I'd like to get it fixed before it becomes something else.

What effect would broken gbox or engine mounts have?Would they drop them on the ground?

My guess would be extra wear on the drive shaft center bearing

but I emphasise again that this is only a guess.

    How much movement?

I had a new gearbox mount fitted when the box was out recently, and a new centre bearing was fitted 3 years ago. I still have (and have always had) about 2mm of gear lever back and forth movement on-and-off throttle in 3rd gear.
