    Thats the Gates standard belt

The blue Gates Racing belt is part no: GRT180R

Three times stronger and worth every cent, even if your not racing!

Highly reccommend this for piece of mind (when it comes to timing gear you want piece of mind)..... and given its not that expensive for what it is.

three times stronger, still needs to replaced after 5 years or 100,000km regardless. the gates oem belt is fine. save your money for other things

Only times you want to pay the extra for these belts is if you running stiffer valve springs with more ponies, OR if blue is your favourite colour.

its still 5years (even if its 3x stronger) or 100,000km. sure you can pay extra for a peace of mind... lol

Every blue gates belt I've seen has had the blue wear off onto the idler pulleys, wouldn't run one unless I had a specific need to.

T180 is actually the OEM equivalent but the T251 is supposedly a better belt and the item I have always used for stock valve trains.

I would agree with you except that its only $50 more

Given the cost of a complete timing kit - its trivial in cost

All belts will lengthen over time and this is where the strength of the gates racing belt becomes useful. How many times will the driver put the pedal to the floor is relative to the requirement as well.

Dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with an o.e.m belt but given the relative cost difference involved, its worth its weight in $

I guess some will agree and disagree regardless - but I would happily pay the extra small difference to help avoid lengthening over time.

Each to their own though, no harm in giving all options and reasons why, that way he can make his own mind up.

As for the blue colour - damn that - I wish they made one in red - haha

I was going to use the gates blue racing belt but chose not to after seeing the thread about the blue coming off it...ive since gotten a Tomei timing belt which is supposedly the same as the gates blue racing belt but it coming in normal black colour rather than the ugly blue colour

Tomei timing belt are supposed to be discontinued .. good find

    Its what I'm running .

These Kevlar belts are a must for upgraded valve springs .

When I first set up my set up my engine with OEM belt (ferrea dual springs) tensioner adjuster was set at 4mm. . less than 60 secs the gap closed due to the the strength of the springs stretching the belt.
Rotating the engine the 4mm gap was still there ..again within 60secs the gap would close.

Changed to Greddy then to Tomei (because I hated blue :p) and the 4mm gap remained firm .

So its not a longer lasting belt as to more of a non stretch belt compared to OEM which is critical for cam timing.
