    Hey guys.

Just like your educated opinions about something. I was just looking up spark plugs last night for some reason and come across a thread about the spark plug gap. I have a set of BKR6EIX-11's installed with the 1.1mm gap but I do run on 1bar of boost most of the time.

I didn't know until now that the sparks previously in my car were BKR6EIX's with the 0.8mm gap. The ones I have now (BKR6EIX-11's) have only done 40000km and are supposed to last 100000km so don't want to change them if I don't have to (~$90 is alot to spend for no reason), but would changing them to the smaller gap have any improvement to my engine? Less detonation in the heat, more power across the range etc etc?

I don't have any missfires at high rpm if that helps.

    Thanks.

    Ben

Some Zed's have a problem with misfiring using 1.1mm gap, other don't. It seems that those that suffer this problem are often cars running high boost levels, and this can be fixed in most instances by closing the gap to .8mm.

The number one rule of car ownership is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".:D:D

Don't re-gap them Ben. You will damage the iridium tips and end up with problems. They aren't designed to be re-gapped.
Since you don't have problems I don't think you would notice any improvement by replaceing them with the smaller gap.
If you were running 18psi and big HP then it might be different, the .9 gap would be better.

Would closing the gap prevent detonation?

Assuming I have checked all other sources, would smaller gaps have any effect on preventing detonation?

    Thanks again for your replies.

    Plug gap VS detonation.......

Using plugs with a smaller gap will do nothing to prevent detonation. Detonation is caused by timing, mixture or boost OR a combination of all three.

If you are not experiencing misfire with your current plugs then no need to change them
