Doesn't sound good. Try running the motor then have a look under the bonnet around the fuel filter , plenum fuel lines and injectors ? with a torch. Can you only smell it in the cab or is the smell under the bonnet stronger ?. Maybe check around the filler / tank area. Does it only do it with a full tank ?.

Yeah make sure you check all your connectors and/or hose clamps for any fuel lines too they may be broken or not tightened correctly

Ok, i had a very similar issue... Open your bonnet, turn the key to on, this 'primes' the fuel rails, listen to hear a squeek or squelching or a strong fuel smell..

If not then id start with your fuel lines in particular the smaller line from the regulator to the fuel rails, this was my issue.

^^2nd prime the system and check for leaks.. check all (ALL) hose clamps in engine bay and condition of hoses.. (probs not a bad idea to replace them if they havent been already there ~20yo now), and follow them to the tank and inspect everything around there.

or...... carry a fire extinguisher around.. wait till it bursts into flames to see where the leaks coming from :p

Check the fuel tank vent hose to the carbon canister. There's a hardpipe that ends on the left side in the engine bay, underneath the fuse box. From there goes a hose to the canister. It goes brittle and develops a hole on the underside at the pipe end.

Smell can be felt around front left wheel.

At first the smell only occured on the odd occasion whilst in park, Then went to "every time" the car was started but only hung around till I started driving then it would fade away. Now it smells alot worse and is extremly noticable the entire time the car is running or driving .

There is a squeaking noise which has gotten worse as well and is also very noticable, But I only notice the squeak whilst driving and to me it sounds like it is coming from the rear, there is still plenty pad left on the rear brakes .

I can not smell fule under the bonnet at the back or sides or even under the car but only in the cab. I started to drive it to work this morning and the smell was very over powering it made me think this thing was a ticking time bomb !!!

I did fill the tank to full yesterday but it doesnt matter how much petrol is in there I can still smell it I also feel it is using more fule than normal especially when I put my foot down which I have tryed not to do too much atm.

Good info Stef, I'm guessing it would be more noticeable in hot weather, and come into the cabin when the aircon is on too?
Could be my problem, it's intermittent and more noticeable on long drives. All my engine bay fuel lines are new, as are the vacuum lines except the lines on the carbon canister The smell started after I installed big side mount intercoolers, and I have checked the hoses were attached properly.
I will replace these and see if it stops the smell.

I just had the same thing. I rang the RAC, again, and they found the fuel pressure regulator was leaking. They said it was too dangerous to drive so they towed it to my mechacic. If it's that, I have a spare!
I sure wouldn't be going ANYWHERE till you find it.

Gargoyle said this, but I figured I'd repeat it: Don't drive it.

Check the fuel lines heading back to the fuel tank too. :)
