    Common culprits.

I get fuel smell in my cabin and not just on the hard right turns.

I am guessing it is a small leak somewhere or perhaps something else.

Everything else on the motor is fine, whatever the smell is its NOT coming from the motor.

Before I go prodding and poking the Zed I was wondering if there are any common places to look for faults for this particular problem.

    Here are the details . . .

    It happens under hard acceleration.
It happens when the aircon is on. (most of the time, not all)
It happens on the right turns (we all know what that is)
Sometimes it just happens, no reason.

    thanks.

I assume TT, so fuel pressure goes up in relation to manifold pressure, this would happen under hard acceleration and could cause a small leak to rear its head.

The air intake for the air con is on the passenger side under the screen cowl, and usually this is broken over the battery and seals with the bonnet, but usually they dont allowing a good wif of under bonnet smells into the air con.

Give your clamps a tweak. Page MA-15 says 0.7 - 1.1 ft/lbs, how your supposed to do that with out an expensive torque driver i dont know, I just tweak them anything overly lose tends to stand out. The EFI hose is getting pretty old too.

There are a couple of clamps out side this diagram going back towards the tank from the filter, under the edge of the battery tray.

I had a similar problem, turned out to be a leaky injector, once you find your problem be sure to clean the engine bay for fuel, the mechanic i took mine to didn't and it caught fire - very expensive mistake. Also as others have said check all hose clamps, its common for them to loosen and cause leaks. Even better, replace the clamps with better quality ones.

The injectors are series 2 injectors on an upgraded p2 fuel rail.

There is no smell from the injectors or anywhere else under the bonnet. If the car is just sitting there under idle or even full throttle there is no smell. However, if you drive it, smell becomes present.

I can probably tighten up some lines but after the last plenum pull (a few days ago) they were all gone over 3 times to be sure. This does not mean I cannot check them again, its always possible I overlooked something.

It is an NA, not TT, if that is any help.

The passenger cowl is new . . .
The carbon canister is still there . . .

Almost forgot, it happens under hard deceleration also (25in/hg - ish)

Are you sure its fuel and not coolant ?

Kind of strange that you can smell it in the car and no where else.

You have obviously parked in a still air area and had a good sniff around.

I had the same problem. My carbon canister was venting to atmo as well as the chassis rail. Solution - block off the hose that was venting to atmo. No more fuel smell :) Probably worth checking out if you have the front bar off anyway.

Well did this happen after you did your plenum pull *stupid question, but someone has to cover it*...

    Yep, positive its fuel.

Plenum pull was done twice and it has been the same since purchase. (It was done twice because I had to get a bolt out of the lower plenum).

Yep, it has been checked thoroughly at standstill both at idle and full throttle.

Will try the carbon canister trick.

    :)
