Lots of the newer cars actually run a very lean cruise tune. I am talking 15.5.

This and very low geared final drive is one of the reasons behind the impressive economy the commodore gets on a trip.

Last NA I drove engine was doing 2750 revs at 100 klm/hr compared to a commodore at 1850 revs

This is where their economy comes from. Thats fine for a trip.

Around town my VZ crewman V6 does 13-17 litres/100 klms which is around what your zed is doing. On a trip however its does 10-12 litres/100klm.

The only option you have to improve economy on a stock car is to get an economy tune and extend the closed loop area a bit higher up the load curve. The stock open loop tune is pretty rich and kicks in pretty early.

    1) dont use very thick oil. Use say 10w40/50

    2) pump your tyres up to 35 PSI+

    3) check your O2 sensors are working correctly

    4) have a light right foot when driving

    5) get it in top gear ASAP but dont let it labour when accelerating

    6) Buy a Nistune and get a safe but economy orientated tune done.

    7) Check the Fuel pressure regulator is within spec or slightly lower

    8) Make sure the hand brake or brake pads are not dragging while you are moving.

    9) Set the wheel alignment up front to close to zero toe in and 0.5-1 degree of camber max to minimize drag

Sell the car and get one that doesnt use as much fuel. We will still wave to you as we blast past not worried about fuel economy. :p

Yeah, awesome!!...Another really good one is to put a resistor in-line with the AFM, it will trick your ECU into thinking there is less air, and as we all know, less air = less fuel.

**** off back to boost cruisin...these idea's are plain retarded and dangerous and belong on ebay to be sold to penny pinching dreamers.

    Some other things to consider:-

    • Vacuum and boost leaks
    • Coolant temperature sensor
    • Detonation sensor
    • General engine condition - Cylinder Compression, spark plugs, injectors, and all the electrical connectors under the bonnet, and other basic mechanical stuff
    • Exhaust blockage (Catalytic converter breakdown)
    • Fuel Leaks (check lines and clamps)
    • Dirty Air filter

i miss driving my telstar. I got 100km just out of my reserve tank, started the metre running every time the light came on :p

but to be driving down the road in my Z and feeling as comfortable as if i was at home in an arm chair, taking corners with practicaly no body roll and having most people take a look my way every time i park down the esplanade, I'd pay the extra just for that :p

Disagree - Your car sounds uneconomical - what are you doing racing or doing the traffic light grand prix run?? You got a hard foot - poor compression - bad driving technique or your too fat!

Should be getting 6l 100km freeway / 8l 100k highway - sure driving around cities and hitting traffic lights swallows fuel heavily but you say rarely stuck in traffic. It must be bad in cities these days.

What you need - not that I sanction any of this!
Add a cyclone/ vortex air flow rotator for $20 - mix your fuel better Add one of those cheap electric superchargers on ebay since its a NA
(you got mixture problems due to not enough air)
Inflate your tyres till they almost pop
travel with only 10 litres of fuel - never top up (add 50kg)
drive at 90kmh with windows up
do not turn on the air con
    minimise electrical power consumption
dont ever touch the brake pedal
    organise yr route better
    turn your motor on less
dont wait for it to warm up - x
    tune it up - dyno
go to a fat clinic - or less ice cream

    Or more money-
    Ground wire kit
    Get turbo's
Get Lighter - Carbon Fibre everything esp hatch and bonnet- chuck the rear seat out
carry a can of air and stop leak instead of spare tyre
Get Lower - Less air to push or slow down - CHOP YOUR ROOF!
Replace your rear/side windows with polycarbonate
