Let me put my gross generalization hat on for a moment...

Maybe I just have too many friends with 180's/Sil's bitching about their latest cheap ass mod and then getting yellowed because they didn't bother to get a permit because it required engineering and they didn't want to spend coin. Then they'd spout off on forums to everyone how it's illegal and you can't do it etc you'll just get yellowed. When the truth is you can do it, you can get a permit, it just requires effort and money. And in a lot of cases people cbf and don't want to put up the $$.

Ok hat back off and onto the topic.

Engineering isn't that expensive depending on what you need done. And the time involved by everyone to look at it all, usually billed by the hour so the more you get done at once can save you some $. From memory it was about $600 for a friends car for coilovers, rods, and a handful of other items. Not cheap but meant it got over pits with everything cert'd with permits. One less thing to get nailed with when pulled over.

You are correct it's not just the engineering, you still need to seek mod approval but in most cases you get approval pending an engineering cert. As mentioned that's the process that he went through, submit mod approval which took the longest out of everything given its a govt form.. and then got the parts certified on the car, fixed his suspension rebound as required by the engineer and then all passed.

Many thanks to all who contributed to the debate. An interesting cross-section of views.
For reasons of rideability I think I will go with new bushes , rather than the pillowball arm replacements. I will check out the adjustable arms from JustJap though.
    Cheers, Paul
