Or something more sinister? In the process of doing my 100k service and with the lower cover off there is quite a bit of oil and muck. Does this look like the front main seal is stuffed?

Last 100k service it was all pretty clean behind the cam covers so this was a bit of a shock. There hasn't been too much oil coming out from under there but as per my other thread there is a power steering leak which may have masked the effects. Just a bit worried that is too much oil and perhaps the oil pump is haemorrhaging.

    Looks like

Front main seal is leaking, no probs only a 10 minute job to replace it from where your at.
All the muck under there looks like your timing belt is rubbing on something and disintergrating.

Yep, defitinely looks like your timing belt is slowly turning into fluff  Sort that out!

I'd change the front seal just to be sure, does look like it's leaking. How are the cam seals? It looks pretty dry

No worries I have the seal to replace in any case just worried there was something more going on.
I wondered if that stuff was timing belt. The belt itself looks fine. Probably good news it's all getting changed out with the 100k.
    Thanks

Cam seals look good actually. Yeh I'll have a look and see what is killing the belt. Lasted 100,500 Km so obviously wasn't killing it quickly.

Check your idler bearings, the VG in my slicktop looks a lot like that after a idler siezed.

Yeh one of them looks a bit worse for wear. I have new idler bearings there also.
