I'm trying to work out what bolts up to the hole between the two main mounting holes at either side of the cross member. I've highlighted it in yellow below. Also is the dip required?
No answer for you, Chewy, but you could send 3clipse a note...he has just replaced his at the Sydney Tech Day and would have been re-connecting bits today (Sunday). Illustration did show up OK for me....
Page FA16 of Manual in tech section (suspension) shows clear exploded illustration of cross member...seems to be no connection to hole you mention.
That dip with the hole would have been put there to add some strength to cross member mounting points . maybe the hole is an alignment point on the chassis drawings. I'm on my phone so can't check them
Thanks everyone. The reason I asked is because my front cross member is looking a bit beaten up on the underside so I'm thinking of making one from scratch to match the radiator support bar I replaced with some 2"x3" RHS. Also I don't want to have those funny looking bolts used for mounting the cross member to be visible in the engine bay. There's a crush tube between the top and bottom of the chassis rails for those bolts so I want to cut that out and weld in some bosses (internally threaded pipe). Though I'm finding it hard to find somewhere that sells bosses with an interference thread fit (I think they call it a 5g6h tolerance grade thread).
