I did some dicking around this arvo.
Ive never really liked the look of the stock foggies but i want fogs fitted as we get plenty of heavy fog at night down here in southern tassie
I fitted some corner clearance/indicators in place of the fake ones and i gutted out the front indicators and fitted a pair of these cool little projector type lights.
They come complete with brackets and are sold as foglights/driving lights
They were only 40 bucks including H3 globes. The globes fitted arent very bright but ill prolly try some HID's in them if i find a set cheap enough.
They have an absolute straight across beam cutoff with no spill from above.

The light themselves are bracketed to the rear housing which is bolted to the reo bar and the lenses just slip around the lights.

Im going to try some of that smoked lens paint and smoke both the fog and indicator light lenses to disguise them a little. i dont know if i like the finished look just yet!

What do you lot think of them?

    That looks a little wierd.

I made a front bar without the indicator and square fog light holes thinking it would look better, Didnt work now i have this bar in my shop shelf so i know not to try again.
Here is a pic of mine..

The whole design principle of a Fog Light is that it MUST deliver an Orange/Yellow frequency beam(anything brighter will totally defeat the reason for having them in the first place).
HID's will NOT function as a usable Fog Light alternative, for the same reason. White light will FLARE in foggy conditions, and be worse than having no lights at all.

Yer. Im in two minds about it. I keep looking at it from different angles and just cant make up my mind.
One thing I did not want was what Brytech has done with round holes. That does look unco on a car where not a lot is round.
I was hoping to get the projectors in behind the indicator lens and fabricate up a smoked uncut perspex cover but this meant hacking into the foggy back housing and thru the reo bar as well due to the length of the projector.
Im hoping that smoking the lenses might disquise whats going on a little more.

On a "brighter" note, they work spectacularly well as additional headlights and make otherwise pretty ordinary low beams (HID's) really quite good.

    Keep opinions coming.

Rubbish, this was disproven a long time ago.

This was brought up years ago here, with lots of good info posted about it.

Fog lights should be positioned as low as possible, and throw a flat wide beam.

Provide proof of this statement or pull your head in.

Almost every European truck I have driven and seen in the last god knows how many years does NOT have yellow foglights.
Seppo trucks rarely have them fitted OEM.

The lights are, as mentioned above, flat and wide and low to the ground, and WHITE!.
    Just like mine actually.

i think if you want them, then you should have put some mesh in the bottom mouth and put them behind it...

if the light doesnt disperse properly you could just cut the light area out of the mesh...

    Fair point.
I did consider that briefly but i wanted to do something with the existing holes in the bar.
In real life, they dont look bad at all, just sort of different is all.

Still have to smoke the lenses yet.

Good on ya for having a go at something different.
Not really a fan. Maybe because its a bit of a round peg in a square hole setup.
Repco sell a small rectangular driving light which is simmilar size to the fog recess I was considering those as a replacment to the OEM fog setup (cheaper alternative)
